Unfortunately there is nothing about this bike that would suggest that it is a Malvern Star. It is a nice old bike though.

Hi I just came across a 2 star. The bottom bracket is 3 digits and I think it says 586 and the seat tube 9PI583. It seems to be identical to the bike in this link http://www.oldbike.eu/museum/1940s/1947 ... ath-racer/. Hoping to find a guy to bring the paint back to new.. does anyone know if you can get Malvern star decals from this era? Cheers

[quote="Ryan-F"]Hi I just came across a 2 star...........

The bottom bracket is 3 digits and I think it says 586 a casting number of no interest

and the seat tube 9PI583. a frame number that means something , Perth and a year I wont guess , photos?

It seems to be identical to the bike in this link in which case its a Gents roadster not a "path racer"

decals try ebay, paint is very expensive to get back to original

I can send pics of decals if you want for your records to show what they look like...they're not perfect a bit worn

The serial number would indicate a 1949 Perth built frame.
Decals for MS frames are available from Greg Softley
http://cyclomondo.net/page30.htm

Photos of your frame are highly desirable to confirm the date. Also to assess the condition of the paint.
If you advised where you lived we might be able to recommend a good local painter. But has been said, painting is not cheap.

hi Warren
i am brand new to this forum / site so i will learn as i go. just after a little advice... i have aquired a bicycle... or what is left of it anyway and am curious to your info on serial numbers... this particular bike has the number 6.935 .. so what age do you think she or he is?

i was going to repaint but love the patina on the bike... so maybe just display piece... your thoughts would be very much appreciated at this point as i don't want to destroy its past as it were...

btw... not sure how to post pics???

cheers Mick.

Put it on Facebook Mick, no hoops to jump through to post pics there. That number alone not enough to date it.

can we see some photos and what equipment was still on it?
It may be either a Roadster or a Racer
see this 1949 advertisement
and this advertisement will give a guide to the paint design.

Hi there . I am new to the forum and have a question or 2 relating to early malvern star bicycles. A bit of background is that i restore early road bikes or trackies for personal collection ie 1952 rotrax roadie, 1956 rotrax trackie , 1960 andre Bertin roadie to name a few.
Any how on a online sale site here in NZ there is a couple of malvern stars . the one i would like to purchase has a raised superior and one inferior on the head tube not cast in the lugs, the other thing is the rear drop outs are track type not pressed but the seat stays are bolted to them and to the seat tube. Handle bars are oppy bars and stem.
Unfortunately i cant up load pics
( http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... 1294939305 ) here is a link that hopefully works.

Thanks for any help
Philip

Why?
(these ones will last as long as the bike hasn't been sold.)
I'd be asking for a serial number to allow for the determination of the manufacturing date.

Brazed on stars is all I've ever seen. The Major Taylor stem and fluted BSA cranks would be worth the current price of entry.

Perth built Five star MalvernStar
I had been after this frame for while and now have it so pretty excited!
Since the topic has gone awry since i started watching it, and i havent posted for ages i though i would see if any body can shed some light on the origins of this Perth built 5 star
Are they harden lugs? And does that put it about 1947?
Was there a racer or company named speed?
Thanks guys

5 star Malvern Star "Speed" track bike. I suspect you are right in that thread about speed being a nickname. Seems unlikely to be speed Morgan given he was a NSW rider pre WW2, but as you say, common nickname for a racer.
