TIPs - using the bicycles.net.au forums.

Postby heavymetal » Thu Mar 29, 2007 11:03 pm

You may find answers to your general questions in the Forum FAQ. The tips supplied here are advanced tips, that are not found in the general FAQ.

I'm looking for a bicycle shop, or organisation.

If you are, then click here for Australia's top cycling portal.

Posts since your last visit Image

Forum users that are registered members will notice that topics with unread posts have a different color icon as indicated above.

If you do not want to read all of the messages, you can choose to view new posts since your last visit by selecting "View posts since last visit" from the top right corner of the Forums Index page.

Jump to New Posts Image

Clicking on the the title of a topic will take you to the very first post in a topic. When a topic has unread posts, there is a small orange page icon in the title.

Clicking this icon will take you to the first unread post in that topic. This will save you having to scroll down if it is a large thread.

Editing your own posts

When writing a post to the forum, it is advisable to use the Preview option first. This will allow you to read the post and look for any spelling and grammar errors. However these still get missed, so if you have made a mistake in your post, you may edit the post. Using the Image (right hand corner of post) will allow you to go back and fix your spelling and grammar errors. You can also add extra information to your post.

If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic that lists the number of times you edited it. This will only appear if no one has replied; it also will not appear if moderators or administrators edit the post (they should leave a message saying what they altered and why). Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.

To delete a post, click Edit and check Delete this Post. Click Submit to finish deleting the post.

Private Messaging

If you wish to pass on some details such as your address, telephone number or email address, it may not be advisable to post it into a public forum where everybody can read it. Private Messaging is available for this reason. It allows you to contact other members of the forum in privacy.

To send a PM, you can either use the PM button Image which is at the bottom of a reply or post of the person that you wish to PM, or else use the memberlist and use the Image button there once you have located the person that you wish to PM.
