Does anyone ride flip flop gears?????

I ride a Karate monkey SS 33x16 and often would really like another gear, hence the question does anyone have experience setting up a flip flop? If so, how do you find it - does it work for you?
I also found details about a guy who set up a triple fixed system
Bruce made a triple-fixed mountain bike. He used a Shimano cassette hub, which he immobilized by brazing the ratchet mechanism together. I am a bit nervous as to the long-term prospects for this hub, in particular the connection between the Freehub body and the hub shell - He's got:

I realise that a 1x10 gear set up would be as good as this if not better but I just don't like the prospect of keeping it properly tuned up all the time - so, I ride a SS, but a flip flop or this triple are thoughts to ponder. Any thoughts on this setup? cheers

Just get a fixed/fixed hub. Two is plenty coming from a background of always just one.

After varying choices i think I will either go a Rohloff if I can justify it, or go to a 1x10 - as a mature age rider who wants to ride a late variety of terrain, I think a fixed or continuing with the SS just isn't practical for me, cheers

I've got a fixed /fixed hub. I would have to have a good reason to flip it, like perhaps a longish steep descent or the converse. I've got this very nice compact Surly spanner though, so I should try it more often I guess. So far I haven't found a hill I can't get up ... just.

But I'm going on a 160km ride in October that involves descending Macquarie Pass (NSW) so might think gears a bit more before then.

I guess if I was young and fit I would tough it out - after all the tough get tougher don't they !!
I'm actually considering changing my KM to a 1x9 or 1x10 and riding it for an off road bike - and buying a second bike, a touring bike for longer bitumen and hard dirt rides to gain the expected increase in comfort- something like a Surly DLHT or a VWR, cheers

Is that where you just take your feet off the pedals? thought of that, wasn't sure whether it was a good idea around the corners But I have seen a friend do that on a penny farthing. At least I have brakes!

Skids most of the way down Galibier. But I'm guessing it costs at least one tyre per descent..

All my hubs are fixed/fixed. Have never put a cog on the NDS.
