20" Micargi Cruiser

Postby Lark2004 » Fri Jan 08, 2010 2:20 pm

New project time......

Since I have just finished off my last project bike ( single speed Repco Superlight)

I figured I needed something different to work on...
So up to the local tip-shop thismorning to see what I could play with, and I this is what I found (in a somewhat sad shape, but mostly workable)

This is what it should've looked like when new....

Somewhere along the line someone put on a front brake and fitted those radial spoke wheels (with some stupid number of spokes per wheel, which I might add, are mostly broken....)
Most (if not all) the chrome work is ruined, but the seat and frame are in really good condition. I am thinking I might get some nice 36 hole rims, lace them up to an old 3-speed Sturmy-Archer hub (just have to chase down a t-bar shifter for the top tube) and fit a rear brake (probably get a nice matching set for front and back.....)

What I'm not decided on is the damaged chrome..... I have an electroplater just down the road from me.... or do I paint/powdercoat the parts....

I am selling alot of brand new chrome chopper parts on ebay at the moment.

Brand new old stock cranks are going around $20 to $30.

I have NOS 20 inch Japanese rims too.

Keep an eye out.

Probably going to ditch the one-piece cranks and do a sqaure taper conversion... If I can find a nice set of compact cranks that are short enough :?

Any idea's on getting my hands on a longer sissy bar? I'm thinking it needs to be a foot longer than the original one.

Try these.

http://www.charlespurtonimports.com.au/_home.asp You LBS should deal with this mob?

Also see what Electra have.

Good luck with the short square taper cranks. The BB will go in. The shortest crank I have seen in Square taper is 165mm.

By the way, the repco looks fantastic!

Thanks for those links....

As for the cranks, the one piece cranks that were on the bike are 150mm..... there is any ebay shop by the name of Wheelandsprocket... they just happen to sell a 150mm square taper crank :D
