Foxtel Play has now been downloaded to the Mac laptop, a USB-C to HDMI cable ordered (laptop is old enough that it deosn't support Airplay and hence link to AppleTV), but haven't yet tested whether it works.

Will give it a go with trying to watch some of the Tour de Romandie Stage 2 (replay) tonight. Even has Tour of Yorkshire telecast as well. :D

Had a look at the program online and it looks like the Giro stage telecasts start at 9:15pm each night, so that in a way is a win, as sometimes staying awake till the usual SBS telecast start of 11:30ish was an effort in itself.

This also means that then for stages like #16 (the double Stelvio stage), we may see the Mortirolo ascent/descent, but will definitely see the Stelvio up and down & Umbrail climb as well.

Hopefully the technology all works ......

after a bit of faffing about (sorting out a load error with the Mac OS which required Silverlight to be installed), it all works.

:-)

Watching the last 5km of Tour de Romandie Stage 2 now.

Yay !!!

Well done.

But here is the last 6km I watched at work early this morning - http://www.steephill.tv/players/youtube ... a8&yr=2017

I have set up a TV in my wood fired pizza oven area and will be having a bunch of my cycling friends around for a Giro, Pizza and Vino night to watch stage 20. It should be a great night.

Found Steephill a bit flaky at times and when a stage gets to the good part, REALLY annoying

Giro via Foxtel Play/Go

Postby MichaelB » Thu May 04, 2017 6:21 pm

:?

While it works, the fact that if you don't have the latest TV or Foxtel TV or get the full Foxtel, you are stuck with whatever device you have.

I have found out that if you try and mirror or plug in the laptop to Rv via HDMI cable or similar, you get the sound and nothing else (on the TV that is).

At least the Mac laptop we have had a decent screen, but I can guarantee that at the end of the 1 month period, the subscription will be cancelled.

Starts tomorrow

That's about it.

Watching at the moment on Steephill. To be honest I thought it might have been harder to work out how to watch but actually very easy.

No coverage on SBS, very little interest in the race. Whoever sold the rights to pay TV for 30 pieces of silver has likely lost a few fans from this race.

RCS sold the rights. Whether it's a good decision overall remains to be seen. Bad for us Aussies, as even the SBS tracker is not showing the 2017 route.

Even after 2 stages, interesting to se 2 of the GC guys have already lost time due to splits.

Looking fed to Stage 4

The tour tracker app (the parent app that SBS sponsored(?) last year) covers the Giro.
I'd just updated the app on iOS a few hours ago and have found you get a 5 day trial before needing to pay a few $$$ for it.

Not much on youtube this year either, as I was hoping to watch the stages at reasonable hour after work.

It almost seems as though RCS is actively trying to wipe out the international cycling fanbase :(

Hi Micheal,

So you can only watch live or can you see reasonable highlights packages after the race? Can you record?

I have a PS4 and I think you can Foxtel Play on that. Considering getting the 2 week trial at 2 weeks from the end of the Giro.

So far been watching the 2 minute highlight packages on Youtube. Steephill was OK, but I could not work out how to put the stream to full screen to watch on TV. Seemed to be limited to a small window for the video. Would be great to see a more length highlight package similar to the half hour packages SBS was running last year.

Can't record from Foxtel play as mentioned earlier. Have plenty of repeats (Stage 3 has 2hrs about 4 times between now and Stage 4)

Just do it

Tonight's stage will be interesting. Mt Etna, 17.9km at 6.6% average, but with ramps of 12%

Is this going to see the GC guys out to play, or great for a climber (but not GC threat) to take a stage win or valuable GPM points ?

Are one of the GC contenders going to fire the 1st salvo and then force the others to chase, or is the powder going to be kept dry because taking the pink early then asking for trouble ?

Have plenty of fresh coffee on hand !!

I think Nibali would like to be in the pink jersey when stage 5 finishes in Messina, which is his home town, so this is his only real chance for that. The rest of the contenders will probably save it for later stages as long as they don't lose much time to any other contender.

Other than that I think an outsider could win this stage.

Loved the stage last night, but didn't see some of the fireworks expected, but great to see another different stage winner.

Pity about Rohan, but hopefully recovers quick. Maybe a slot in the TdF team now ?

The next 4 stages are sprinter friendly, so will use that to try and catchup on sleep prior to Stage 9 and the Blockhaus MTF. Should be an entertaining 149km ....

so did you pay for the foxtel play or are doing the free trial?

only asking as the only things I want to watch on foxtel would be cycling and the F1, but regular foxtel is like $75/month and all I want is 1 or 2 channels, not worth it, i just fire up a stream for the F1,not the best, usually good till 2/3 of the race is done then goes flaky.
