ROUBAIX !!!!

Postby MichaelB » Fri Apr 07, 2017 12:46 pm

Next to the Giro, my favourite race.

It seems with the weatehr forecast, my hopes of a wet race are dashed again.

2016 event was brilliant (not only for the winner), but how the race unfolded.

Can't wait to see who wins this time.

Hope it's either GvA (as a favourite) or Durbo as an outsider

I wouldn't mind seeing Boonen win a record 5th Roubaix in his last ever pro race. It would be the fairytail end to a spectacular career.

I'm so excited. Good field again this year. Would love an outsider, a time trialist maybe?

No breakaway. Gonna be chaos on the first lot of cobbles; both on the cobbles themselves but perhaps moreso on the lead-up.

Boonen and Sagan will be heavily marked. Im tipping an outsider. Could Stybar sneak away while they watch Boonen? If Orica are smart they will play their trump card here, and its not Durbridge or Hayman. Jens Keukeleire was the only one who could go with GvA in Gent Wevelgem, and very nearly rolled him in the sprint. He's strong, he's Belgian, and he can ride cobbles.

GVA brilliant. Another spring win for him.

Stybar screwed up a little.

Well deserved to GvA and well played by BMC. Stybar was never going to win the sprint.

GvA has thrown off the nearly man tag. Does Stybar inherit the title with 6th, 5th and two 2nds in Roubaix ?

Great race, and in the end, the result that was deserved.

Oss needs a major bonus (as well as the rest of the team for their efforts).

Thought that GvA was against it when he got a bit boxed in the sprint, but he just wound it up 8) Great result for Langeveld too.

This finish was just as thrilling as Matty Hayman's win last year. I was expecting the green 3rd place getter to do more to sneak the win (I think you're allowed to shank people for these huge races, no honour amongst thieves etc) but the finish with 4th and 5th rejoining the bunch sprint, holy cow. Hard to say I've seen a better finish to a race. Glad my heart calmed down so I could sleep!

I've been following BMC on FB and GvA has a ton of results this spring. Very cool. I suspect he's an overnight success 15 years in the making

One of the greatest achievements of human endurance - BUT -

Don't know about in other States, but in WA SBS was broadcasting adverts extolling the virtues of coal!! Methinks the focus group for the Fossil Fools misunderstood the market in this time slot. They are looking pretty desperate.  *

*Or perhaps they think the racing is done on fixies.

Not a classic classic, but great to watch nonetheless.

Brilliant effort from Daniel Oss. He rode out the front for what seemed like forever.
