Absolutely! I reckon he's laughing. His name keeps on getting thrown around as a potential Tour winner, Im sorry but I think 5th or 6th would be the best he could have hoped for this year. Next year he'll be pushing it to go top 10. Lovely guy, Id love to see him do well, but I have no confidence in him as a Tour GC rider. He seems to be one of those guys who on paper can climb and time trial and should be a favourite, but never produces any Tour results.
So he gets to keep this 'potential' intact now he's out, and the hype continues. If he hadnt crashed, we would see him again not live up to the hype and maybe people might see that he is not all he is cracked up to be. Now, everyone is still not sure if he can produce or not.

I bailed last night despite some good riding in the break.

From the results this morning, great ride by Alaphillipe and Dan Martin , and Rigo the designated GC guy to lose time.

Froome must be running out of lives soon ....

They were discussing this during last night's coverage and basically, the longer Porte goes without finishing a grand tour, the harder it gets for him and if next year he's going to be the competition, then they might just do that. And from the commentary last night, I gather that BMC race management is let's say, 'frustrated' at Porte crashing out....again.

I've read elsewhere...everywhere really...that Porte's late entry to cycling from tri has left him wanting in the bike handling stakes. Would this be true? To me all of the Pro Tour guys with the exception of Cavendish and that crazy Russian or Kazahk or whatever sprinter from the 90's (?) look pretty good. Maybe Andy Schleck too. For instance, the way that GVA casually rolled over the top of someone's bike who'd crashed in front of him on the Roubaix stage was pretty good.

I grew up in the 70's riding my dragster everywhere
Barked myself a fair bit but I obviously learned from the experience.
I bought my young bloke (and myself) Aldi 29ers a while back.
He is not an uncoordinated kid. Plays basketball at VJBL level and is pretty handy on the guitar.
He is appalling on the MTB
Cannot ride the most basic tracks without difficulty and falls off nearly every ride. I've sat behind him and coached him, led the way with commentary but he still struggles.
I am no guru bike handler but I've also ridden motorbikes a fair bit so maybe that helps also.
He is making progress but it is painfully slow.

Stage 11 should be a cracker - 4000m of elevation in 108km!!!

Yeah, that's tough. I've done 3500m in 92km - that had some difficult climbs on it and was hard work.The Giro went through the same area so we could see what the pros did on those same mountains. Simply crazy how fast they are.

It sort of was, and it wasn't.

I fell at 11pm and went to bed, as there wasn't a huge amount happening. It seems that it all kicked off on the final climb, and sadly, it wasn't the results I wanted, although there is some glimmer from Dumolin and Martin.

Sadly now, I'm almost going to not bother watching, as it seems, whilst early days still, others are racing for survival and just hanging on. No-one is seemingly able to even think about how they beat Sky, its more about how they can try and beat each other.

As much as I don't like Sky, I hope that GT finishes higher than Froome, but given my recent hopes with Porte and Yates, I can more likely win the X Lotto

About the only good thing from last nights stage is seeing them ride somewhere that I did a couple of years ago (from Col du Pre down into BSM via Barrage and Cormet de Roseland) is that it brings back some GREAT memories.

Oh, and watching it, nice attack from Valverde.

I'll probably keep watching but Sky certainly do their best to make the race a borefest.

Someone needs to work out a way to disrupt their tactics. Otherwise cycle racing will be the loser as people turn off.

Gaviria may be fast, but he's got a lot to learn to be a true Green Jersey threat.

Not a snooze fest (as seen by a great ride by the Coathanger and a few others) but more of a “I can’t be bothered any more because a team with chequered credentials and huge budget are making it boring” fest in my book.

Was watching last night and almost pushing the TV to help Kruiswjik get there, but as soon as he got passed by that dodgy Sky rider (my opinion and sticking to it) I switched off and lamented for the 2nd night in a row that a great effort went unrewarded.

Have really lost interest now.

Fans spitting on riders are the worst of the worst. Whoever you are, hang your heads in shame. Filthy, disgusting act. And it makes us all look as bad as that.

I’m not sure about that. There’s a remarkable amount of knowledge of Froomay’s drug issues among casual followers. They’d more likely see it as just deserts.
