Finish Line Dry Lube with Teflon is probably the best day-day lube I've used. Trying Morgan Blue Extra Dry at the moment - initial impression is that it lubricates very well, but manages to pick up dirt very easily.

Morgan Blue Race Oil

Bit of work to keep it clean, but gee it's good.

Chain lubes popularity seems to change over time. I remember a time when Prolink was extremely popular. Yet i don't see it mentioned much any more. I think a new poll would be interesting to see what the current favorites are.

I still use Prolink and think it's great. However last winter I rode more wet days than ever before and found a thicker oil lasted longer and worked better. I actually had really good results with the Shimano wet weather lube.... Who'd a thunk it?!

Method of Lube Application who does what?

I use a 23G Needle ($0.25) with the sharp tip filed off with a 3ml or 5ml syringe ($0.25) [readily available from the local needle exchange chemist...forget about telling them what you want it for, you are wasting your time] it provides "a controlled dispenser of lubrication" into the chain gaps for effective lubrication of the pins, rollers & bushings with minimal waste, after cleaning/wipe off.....takes a bit of time but the key point is precise application & minimal waste of your chosen lubricant....<3ml typically does the whole chain ….you can have a separate one for ATF lubrication of gear & brake cables & MTB Wax Lube for Dry Dusty conditions. The needle & syringe really help minimise waste of expensive dry lube for dusty MTB riding (Squirt 500ml or White Lightning Clean Ride 1lt).

Out of interest Timken OK Load Rating Test or the ASTM 1200RPM 4 Ball Test for evaluating effectiveness of lubrication of Precision Roller Bicycle Chains…? wonder how the proprietary bicycle lubes would perform ie EP, RnR Gold, Squirt or WLCR etc?....not that it matters anyway, its just a comparative simulation benchmark test that does not represent real world circumstances/conditions or your riding environment.

I'm trying a new polymer based lube from the states called Dumonde Tech. Looks promising. Maybe better than Motorex. :)

NixFrixShun.

So much better than anything else I've ever used. Quiet, long lasting and remarkably crud resistant. 8 drops for my first application, more than a month later I think I might need to re-apply soon: that'll be another 4-5 drops.

I don't know how they're ever going to make money off it, at this rate a small bottle will last me a year doing four people's bikes.

+1 Mark. I scored one of the little bottles and have been using it on my roadie. If only purchasing the stuff in Oz was easier....

8 drops per chain? After a complete kerosene clean?
How long does it last in the wet?

I'm now using the Shimano chain lube. It works well - but it does make the chain go black.

I've got finish line dry lube at the moment, only got it as I was out and that was all the shop had, I don't like how thin it is and how messy applying it becomes as a result, sure I waste a load as its difficult to establish how well lubed it is, plus it pours out everywhere. However, it seems to work pretty well once dry, still lovely and quiet after a couple of weeks (about 550kms) including a light shower. I was using muc off dry lube previously, which seemed to work well and I liked that it was thicker and opaque/white when applying, seems to stay put and was clear what you had lubed already

Almost no rain here for the last few months so my experience is limited, but I rode up the back of Mt Stanley in a downpour a weekend or so back and once the chain dried again everything seemed to return to normal.

Since I'm back in Melbourne from next week I'm sure I'll have more wet weather experience soon.

I'm a complete convert so for anyone coming to http://fyxo.co/melburn-custom-bicycle-show in June I'll have it on all the bikes I'm showing (I'm stands 11 and 12)

I'm using Chain-L and in the dry it lasts about 1600km's
In the wet it brings it down significantly.

Prolink!! Its a pretty thin lube so you'll have to lube your chain more often but it keeps the drivetrain clean at least.

You can use it for your cables too!

I've gone back to Prolink too. I'd say it's middling but towards the light side.

Cables? Maybe... I wouldn't on the ptfe coated ones though.

I was going to say, "you're lucky, it only lasts a week for me". Then I realised that's 3-400km :-)
