Just got my first Eagle groupset.
once you realise, you don't have a bail gear chainring on the front
There's a little bit of https://youtu.be/unkIVvjZc9Y
learning to move one, now to learn how to ride a 29er too

What’s your low gear? I’ve run a single front ring for a few years. Initially I’d lost the bottom couple of gears going from 3x9 to 1x9, but now with 11sp I’ve pretty much got them back, just takes a few extra clicks to jump to the lowest gear instead of dumping the front onto granny.

Front ring is 32
Eagle Cassette, you have no choice on..
it is 10/50
10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 21, 24, 28, 32, 36, 42, 50,
was thinking of trying a 30, for my next chainring . to sit further , in the lower gears,
at the moment i sit in the 36/42/50, while being a bit unfit..

Crumbs, 32/50 is a low gear. Probably lower than I've ever had!

Yeah, But its conditions and fitness based,find_bruce wrote:Wowsers - 32/50 is lower than a 22/34 & you want to go lower
the pea gravel is slippery as hell at this time of year,
i'm on Flow Rims and Maxxis DHF/DHR Wide Trails, around 1 kg each
So not pushing a lightweight bike.. 14kgs of 29er that is around 1.9 metres long
i'm around 120kg with gear, its also my first single ring setup,
So chainring was a guess on what i needed..
based on asking mates and mechanics, all lighter and fitter than me
and we ussually use 11/36, 10 speed cassettes over here..

Fair enough - I'd also missed that you were on a 29er

After years of using 3x9 22/32/44 and 11-32 cassette I've finally decided to go 1x11 on a new 29er I'm building up. It will be 32T with 11-46 Sunrace cassette hopefully the slightly harder granny gear and low top speed doesn't annoy me too much, time will tell.

Well i just went out with a big fast crew social ride , and topping out on a 50 too much, i think i'm due for a 30 tooth, down from a 32, so that i can stay in lower gears longer ..
