Bottom crank clicking noise

Postby IamGroot » Wed Jan 31, 2018 2:43 pm

Just replaced the bottom bracket on me Specialized 29er MB and its making a slight double clicking noise.
Before replacing the bracket it was using a cheapo Shimano Deore SM-BB52 68/73mm (that's what the bike shop recommended) and now I've fitted a Shimano XTR SM-BB93 68/73mm and its still making the noise but only a 10th of how it was before.
Closely followed the YouTube clips on the installation, no problems there but I'd love to have a silent crank.

Any suggestions to why the noise?

Check the chainring bolts ... they can be sneaky because they can appear tight yet emit a click due to the amount of stress they are under.

Last year I had a single 'tick' with each pedal rotation on xt cranks with xtr BB. Following much frustration and testing it was resolved by removing the drive side pedal, re-greasing the thread and re-installing on the crank.

re grease the pedals and the chainring bolts, with antiseize.. in pedals , and standard, in bolts, they can squeak, if original, just with locktight

Tighten everything. Including the seat bolts
