Alloy frame repairs
Postby GusC » Sun Apr 29, 2018 8:59 am
Have a crack in seat post. Difficult to find anyone to fix but feedback is that it’s probably too difficult to fix anyway. Thoughts anyone?

I presume you mean seat tube & I am guessing at the top where the clamp is. Its a fairly high stress area and aluminium alloys tend to tear under tension.
Welding aluminium alloy is generally a short term fix - what happened to my frame is that it then cracked right next to the weld. The way they deal with this in the factory is that they heat treat the frame after welding.
Unless the frame has high monetary or sentimental value, I wouldn't bother

Anything you can do, I can do slower
