QR moves RD hanger?

One for duck or anyone else. I noticed tonight while reinstalling the rear wheel that clamping up the quick release made the RD hanger bend about 3mm inwards, moving the derailleur with it.

I don’t have any shifting issues (for the moment though they have existed in the past; 5700) it’s just an observation, so I’m curious how common/normal this is.

It means the hanger is bent at the mounting hole/s. Check for signs of fatigue around the mount bolt/s and replace if it looks dicey.

I don't think so but I'll double check. Though I'm loathe to do anything as it's shifting sweeter at the moment than it ever has!

It is kinda common in my experience, and in many respects it is to be expect to some degree.

Unless your derailleur hanger is perfectly parallel with the frame and mounting bolt then movement is to be expected. Unless you have perfectly machined surfaces then perfectly parallel is not likely. (To my knowledge neither the hangers not the frame surface is machined smooth and parallel.)

Add this to the fact that hangers can readily get knocked and slightly bent and you get this scenario.


All that said your movement does seem more common than normal but if things are shifting smoothly then I wouldn't worry about it.
