Can cage on RD 6870 be replaced?

Postby Ross » Sun May 13, 2018 1:27 pm

I think the cage on my 6870 rear derailleur is slightly bent (hanger is straight) from the bike being blown over a couple of times as a couple of the lower (easier) gears are a bit noisy .

I presume the cage can be replaced as there are listings on eBay for an inner and outer plate?

Yes. Bit of fun tensioning the spring & locking it in place, but it's quite possible.

Check also that the main body of the derailleur hasn't been twisted; if you sight through the upper mount and cage pivots they should be prarallel. if they're out of whack the body is twisted and you're really up for a new derailleur.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
