ST4500 Tiagra compatibility

Postby Ivanerrol » Sun Jun 03, 2018 6:27 pm

Hi all,

being doing a search on this subject throughout the net without getting as satisfactory answer. Maybe because the ST4500 Tiagra's seem to be so ancient.

My Specialized Sirrus franken bike - the one I changed flat bar to drop bar.
Someone has installed a 105 5800 Rear derailleur on the bike. It's not compatible with the ST4500 Tiagra shifters - wrong cable pull.
It didn't work properly with the original flat bar shifters.

I have a 4500 Tiagra rear derailleur but it's damaged - to bent to repair.
4600 or 4700 10 speed derailleurs are relatively cheap and easily available (unlike the 4500's).

Will the cable pull on the 4600 or 4700 or 105/5700 suit the 4500ST shifters?

Or should I just bite the bullet and upgrade to 10 speed?

Sourced Tiagra 4601 10 speed rear derailleur and installed it - works perfectly. 8)
