Thanks brother

Reckon my handicap will take a hit for a while while I get pumped again about cycling

That's a sin, don't give up either, do both.
Golf + cycling = good

Once set up with both, easy and no more cost.

Only other cost for golf is annual membership fees or comp fees.

Once you have your bike, it's just tyres and the odd service.

It's the "oh I really need that, even though I've got something similar" that's the issue

Ie I love eBay and Gumtree, but can give up anytime I want!

When I stopped playing golf, membership was up to $1350 per year. Comp was $12 per week. Then you go and have chips and a drink afterwards. Plus equipment. Not cheap!
My cycling costs a lot but I enjoy it and I'm home most weekends even after doing 300km+ a week. I do spend an hour or two on the weekend servicing my bikes but I'm still home when that happens. Golf was every Saturday and not home till 12.

You seem to forget the time involved with both activities.

250-300km a week equals 10hrs.

2-3 rds of golf a week equals another 15hrs.

20 odd hours away from home, doing your own s##t, on top of 40+ hrs of work equals to a cranky wife at home stuck with the ankle bitters. Not my idea of a good time at home.

Fair enough

I commute into work so no different to taking the train, ie I don't take any time away from the family

That's all the cycling in currently doing. I'm not the weekend large group kind of rider, at least not yet

As for golf, I only play comp every second weekend, plus the odd corporate match but I play 9 holes 2 days a week before work usually, which will take a backward step probably now as I try to get cycling fit

So ultimately I'm not away from the family as both sports I manage to do before work which is lucky for me

front tyre was a marathon plus with over 20000kms
rear tyre was the third marathon plus

to pro-lite garda
front is now a marathon green-guard (or plain marathon)
rear is a marathon plus

Rain, but warm. Nice (for a rain day, that is). :)

Brakes weren't kicking in as quickly either. Being as they are new they haven't really had a bit of wet grit ground into them to make them grip faster in the rain yet.

Went to ride off, back tyre was flat, dammit.

It's a new bike (Cell SS200) , 3 rides old. Hopefully bad luck rather than a dodgy wheel, tyre etc

Took the Trek Madone 4.5 out, pumped up the wheels, swapped to the clip in shoes and away I went.

Had a nice 16km ride in

Never changed a tyre in my life, so stressing out about that now!
It's the rear tyre as well, which I'm told is harder because of the gears etc
:(

Cold wind this morning slowed me down a bit (more than usual).

Finally diagnosed and resolved a noise that has been driving me barmy since getting a new front derailleur fitted a couple of months ago. Been too embarrassed to ask for help here because I knew it was going to be something really dumb - and it was! What would happen, is the moment I went to the top chainring, this undulating high pitched whine would start up, not influenced by pedalling. Actually sounded not unlike an e-bike. Could not work it out, hearing not good enough to narrow it down to a particular spot, and could not replicate it on the repair stand at work for some reason. This morning, just as I'm starting to think its some weird doeppler air vortex thing, I randomly spotted it - when shifted up, the cable end just pokes its head in neatly between the tyre and the mudguard. Just a couple of mm out of my normal field of vision. Ah doyy! But having bent it out of the way now my bike sounds like someone loves her again :P

snowmaan take yourself off to YouTube Polytechnic, you'll be fine. Better luck next time :)

In Brisbane town for the next 2 days before I fly off to NZ so 2 days of commuting....bike is packed up so dusted the commuter....put some air in the tyres and off I went....forgot to adjust the seat to my new height from last bike fit so a job for tonight...was comfy with the wide/low pressure commuting tyres but a good 8 minutes slower over the roadie (17km ride)...although I also took it easy as I have a couple of big rides end of the week and supposedly resting

I must have all koms between Nudgee Beach and South Pine Road.

I still can't believe some of the time differences in the KOMs now. Nearly 2 minutes over a 16.5km segment.

Bad day, I got hit cycling home today by a van, basically head on, he was turning right into a street in Pyrmont and didn't see me.

I swerved last minute otherwise I probably would have gone under the van. Smashed my bike up but not too bad, as I went up the front of the van windscreen and flew off the left side of it, smashed hard into the ground. took lots of skin off and waited ages for the police to arrive, they didn't so I took a cab home and now in emergency.

Maybe broken arm, waiting for X-ray.

The bastard saw me sit up when people ran in to help me, then sped off away from the scene.

Witnesses took down his number plates and I'm pressing charges.

Closest I've come to you know what and reckon I was a foot away from not being here to type this up.

Only typing this up because I've been waiting hours in emergency, and it's a grim reminder to be safe out there, never thought this would happen to me, very surreal.
