Eh, it sucks when you get a bad run in life - on the bike or off. I always try to remind myself of the bigger picture; cycling keeps me fit and healthy, I'm not dependent on fossil fuels, I'm saving loads of cash and having fun while doing it. I'd still rather the odd abusive motorist than inching along in traffic with the A/C turned up full boar.

You know, often the one way out is actually the gutless and weak option.

PM me if you want to have a chat. I realise you've probably got your own network of support, but sometimes it's nice to have an independent ear.

I hope you're feeling better about life these past few days Cyclophiliac. You're among friends here. Look for the helpers in dark times, there's always at least a few.

I haven't been around much, life has been complicated, I'm getting out on the bike a bit but not enough. Took a rail assisted jaunt to a family thing, and noticed purely by chance, sitting down on the train behind my bike, that my back tyre was worn to within microns of spectacular oblivion. And at nowhere close to the lifespan I would have expected of it. Because I have full-wrap mudguards, I never actually see the tread from normal angles. A good reminder to visually inspect much more often than I do (ie, sometimes). I was lucky enough to be able to borrow a car to take the wheel down to a nearby LBS who took excellent care of it.

Took a much-needed week off work last week, trying once again to get back into a commuting habit. 22km in on Monday, about 16 home yesterday at sunset along the river with the seabirds & their little spring chickens. It was pretty nice.

Accidentally gathering data on running tyres at lower pressures. Had a nice fast run in Tuesday morning but noticed tyre felt a little soft putting it into the rack at work. Checked before leaving and both were around 45psi. That was ... surprising and probably a little low for 23Cs!

Very low! I've done that by laziness, wouldn't do it again. I'm on 26mm and those feel spongy at 70psi. Up at 90-95psi the bike on those tyres feels very fast. But my legs are also working good now too - 1500km in a few weeks does that.

I nearly had some random guy take me out, he was looking down and wobbling all over the shop - fortunately he heard my calls and moved back to his side.

Windy! And dusty.

The dust was still about in the afternoon but not as heavy as in the mid-morning. However, the wind gusts were horrific.

Not commuting much as I left my job a couple of weeks ago, but got a days work and the car was in waiting for parts. Cycled off this morning with a well loaded back pack. Disappointed to get 3 red lights on the big descent spoiled the flow and meant having to be more careful about the motorised traffic instead of belting down the hill at their speed.

What would kb do with another meter? It would distort his pockets and the extra weight would slow him down. I'd rather that the turtle stowed the meter securely and simply gave kb enough space.

Cheers,

Cameron

No point pushing too hard to inhale all that dust!
just took it easy trying to stay upright.

throat was parched dry, very irritable.

looks like another windy commute home today .

And another day of terrible windy conditions. A little dusty, but not as bad.

a much more pleasant Monday morning commute. perfect weather.

there was a prang inside the Beecroft tunnel which closed the breakdown lane and 1 of 3 lanes. traffic backed up to god-knows-where.
forced to merge with traffic for a couple of hundred metres to clear the flatbed truck and cops.

Only more pleasant if you left home on time. I didn't - had to ride absolutely flat out with already tired legs. Had a 31km/h average speed - I will be paying for that later today.

Left Melbourne northside in rain and rivers for bike paths. Arrived in CBD with dry roads feeling a little over dressed.

Pipe bridge was wet though. Over cooked it on the slight bend after the ramp and the back wheel slid over the wet steel. Lost a bit of knuckle skin against the chain link fence.

And 8 hours later I’m thinking may have sprained the other wrist :-(. Wonder if I can change toddler clothes one handed?
