I decided to take the Azzurri road bike with 25C tyres this morning, it was wet AF and the brakes turned to mush black paste :(
Still a fun ride in, as Bus replacements for Trains meant the freeway traffic was fkd! So glad I don't drive 2 work!

What brake pads do you have? They shouldn't do that.

article below reminded me of what I witnessed on the M2 while riding home last week.
westbound afternoon traffic was reduced to a crawl when suddenly a driver got out of his car (on the middle lane no less) and started threatening the driver in front of him - "bring it", "bring it on" .. yadda yadda yadda.

so much anger when everyone has the common goal of .. just trying to get home

Just stock standard Sora brakes on the Azzurri, which is a 2012 model!

See about getting some different/better pads. Swisstop are good.

My commute yesterday afternoon was a nice 65km, but my planned same one today was rained out, only 25km. :(

Passed 10,000 commuting KMs for 2018 today, and 70,000KMs on Bike Journal since December 2010.

Must be why I'm feeling a bit tired!

Broke the front derailleur tonight. I got the buttonto change up, heard a noise but it didn't go anywhere. Looked down and the linkage had snapped. Can't find the receipt either

My first commute in ~10 weeks since I got hit by a car, and man, I was nervous. And it was not helped by seeing a motorbike rider knocked off not far from where I got knocked off!

Image

I did a u-turn to check in although I didn't see it. She seemed okay, ambos turned up, I did tell her friend about reporting the crash so she can et all medical expenses covered (if required) by ICWA so at least she doesn't have that to worry about. 10 weeks later and I'm still getting physio once a week but no out of pocket thanks to ICWA!

Caught in a huge thunderstorm. :x Very bad. I ended up stopping at a shopping mall under the awnings, but that didn't help much, the rain was that heavy and the winds so gusty. I wasn't the only one trying to take shelter.

I guess I didn't go too badly considering. Eventually home - now drying out shoes, cleaned the bike up, etc.

My brakes have also decided to go silly in the rain too - must have had something wash up onto the pads or the wheels. The pads are fairly well worn, so I'll change them soon.

Planned about 60km this afternoon. Got about 20km and turned around and went straight home at high speed - those innocent looking clouds started thundering.

Still, got home without getting wet.

Hopefully tomorrow will be dry. Still lots of mud and debris everywhere though.

Still feeling nervous when on the roads. Not helped by another tool overtaking me then immediately turning left, rather than wait 10 seconds to make the turn.

Both my last two evening commutes home have been through violent thunderstorms. Spectacular light shows. Managed to dodge the hail tonight but not the 40 minute job cleaning down mybike and getting all the sludge off the rims and outof the brake pads.

I really gotta get me a disc roadie... but my CAAD9 is so nice to ride :'-(

Bit of drizzle this morning's commute meant the rim brakes on my TCX (currently with 23/25C tyres) turned to black mush /paste.
No need for arm warmers, jacket.
Last commute into work for the year!
Merry Christmas to all :)

I've also been dodging the rain a bit too - I have to also get rid of all the garbage off the bike, it is filthy. did a 31 average this morning on the commute without working too hard. But I was cautious on the brakes... Nearly got caught by oil on the road at a roundabout yesterday, fortunately I was going slowly.

Yesterday in between the thunderstorms I managed to get in 30km in the afternoon, only interrupted to move a turtle off the cycleway.

I'm holding off on a disc road bike, though it's hard to avoid them, high end bikes without them are slowly disappearing. New S5 Cervelo is disc. Various others are going disc.

just started a new role which requires commuting to 2 different locations weekly.

end-of-trip facilities at North Sydney is pretty good - i.e. fresh towels, body gel, day locker, shower, bike pump, repair tools, etc ..

the other location is more basic - can't expect much being the lone cyclist in an anonymous data-centre in the middle of a business park.

also realised belatedly that i need to be on top of the "stuff" that i bring daily - e.g. fresh clothes, notebook+power supply, security ID, USB cables, etc .. i don't have a permanent locker in either location so gotta make sure i don't show up without proper clothes to change to!

Argh, so much standing water, mud and rubbish everywhere. I spent almost one hour cleaning up the bike.

Otherwise I seem to have managed to commute everyday without getting caught in the rain, so that's some miracle.

The rain was bad this arvo, but the wind was worse. Gusty, strong and in my face. Quite unpleasant.

One more commute for the year, might extend it a little to get to 11K.

Nice work. Need to look after the wildlife.

Last boys weekend away we nearly ran over a massive echidna on the Thredbo Valley Trail. We had a good laugh at the lead rider for calling it a porcupine. I've never seen one so big. The australian equivalent of a Honey Badger. He just didn't give a damn
