2017 ACF Commuting Challenge (AT) Endomondo

Postby westab » Mon Jan 30, 2017 10:03 am

Dear Friends,

Just thought we should have a place to discuss how we are going, where we are positioned, etc......

And more importantly try to attract a few more riders to the challenge.

The commuting challenge is for any rider on any type of bike and is described as -
"ACF BNA Commuter challenge. A commute is where you start at one destination and end at another for a purpose other than training. e.g. to work, to the shops......"

If you would like to join please find the link to the challenge here https://www.endomondo.com/challenges/31257567 (and yes you will have to join Endomondo.

Mods could please apply the sticky to this thread and remove it from the 2016 thread - Thanks Westab
Not fast, no style, but still get there.

The challenge has started with a cracking pace... unfortunately I am now going to gym in the morning so have to cut the commute down, plus going via a couple of climbs now which again limits the km... add a long weekend and another this weekend... but its early days. Auckland transport have a commuting challenge in Feb with some good prizes so will see how I sit in that

Thanks Shaun - appreciate it.

Yesterday in Sydney was hot, I used to not feel it but I must be getting old or soft or both. Emptied 1.5 l of water in 12kms / 20min of riding and still felt sick and dehydrated when I got home.

Still a bit flat this morning but it was a pleasant ride in - I hope the cool change arrives before the trip home so I can get some extra kms done before the heat returns.

Sorry Jason if I was out of line posting the link - it would be great to have more though.

The heat in Sydney has dropped 10 deg in an hour I'm looking forward to the ride home - still right down the bottom of the bunch as so many have disappeared into the distance.

F&O - let the chase begin; I'm sure you won't stay that strong last for long.

I've sent invites to those who requested. I've made the challenge public again. I'll close it once those who have endomondo accounts have joined up.

With a nearly 90km ride - I'll be looking in the mirror watching for you; well done F&O - look out everyone (except MR Ironhanglider
who has just vanished into the distance).

Still just top 10 - don't know for how long.

 Alas, still no home wi-fi  I just wanna see my progress bar move!

It's only been 10 weeks since we first told Telstra we were moving, but they promise it'll be fixed on Monday......

I doubt I'll be vanishing in to the distance though......

I laugh at the thought of vanishing into the distance. (For the purposes of this challenge) I was fortunate to not have much time off work, and School holidays gave me the time to stick in some extra k's. However school is back now limiting me to the direct route. Even worse I had two days of not riding due to a work trip, so I will now be back to my regular 200-250km/wk.

The gap is beginning to close. I would expect that jasonc will be past me before the end of Feb. He might even cut me down in a St Valentine's day massacre.

Cheers,

Cameron

I thought that I had opened a door with a work from home day yesterday. :|

So I went the long way to and from work to make up for it. :)

Then I see that jasonc put in a big day too. :|

Now I'm going to have to work from home on Monday as well

It's all fun now, but will be in the depths of winter when it will become serious. Not quite sure how to arrange for Brisbane to have winter though...

Cheers,

Cameron

Just under 100 for me today - 260-odd for the week
And we have Winter - I get zero at my place overnight. But then I get 20-24 degrees during the day. Looks like Monday is the only commute day next week so you have a chance to build a lead

Until last winter I lived in Canberra, and China before that, you can't impress me with 0 degrees.
8 degrees and rain is what I'm not looking forward to, better get that flap installed on the front guard...
I'm also not looking forward to getting into cold wet clothes for the ride home...

I won't be going to any particular lengths to extend the lead, since I am constrained by the school drop off and pick up routine (except maybe on Fridays), however I aim to be consistent. 250/week is about par for me.

Cheers,

Cameron
