Trainer Skewer

Postby filippimini » Sun Jun 05, 2016 9:54 am

Hi All,

I've borrowed an indoor trainer (not sure of brand), and have been using it with my old Trek FX 7.1 hybrid. I went to put my Giant TCR into it, but the skewer is incompatible with the trainer do to the shape of the locking mech.

Whats my best course of action? Can I simply swap the skewers between the bikes? Are all skewers the same length and diameter?

Cheers
Ryan

Mountain bike skewers are usually 5mm longer due to the wider dropout spacing, but aside from that they're all the same and interchangeable, you'll just have a little bit of skewer protruding past the end of the nut, but it's not an issue.

To safely fit in a trainer you need one of the basic all-steel skewers, most crucially the end nut - if it's a plastic-capped nut, the cap can pop off, dropping the bike out of the trainer & dump you on the floor.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
