Are you racing or thinking of racing?CKinnard wrote:I've lost 1.5kg this year, but I feel I've lost muscle from my arms too much.
I am probably riding too hard for my age, and catabolizing too much lean tissue.
Most rides I hit reasonably hard, doing extended threshold efforts on road rides, and threshold intervals at a track twice a week. I generally need to rest afterwards.
It's a big ask to expect the body to repair, remodel, and grow muscle when on a 500-1000 Calorie deficit /day.
So I should be scaling back the ride intensity.
I've been doing 7-12 hours a week, for several months, but should back right off.
Off the bike exercise includes a couple of times a week:
- push ups
- not doing pull ups as i'm still compromised from an elbow fracture last year.
- cable pulley stuff.
- planks
- bicycle crunches.
- 2-3 x 1 hour walks /wk.
lots of salad, fruit, and legumes on the menu, 200-300 g of meat/wk.
main starch is pita bread and varieties of potato.

Raced until 2013. I keep thinking of getting back into it, but the risk:reward calculus doesn't warrant it. Fracturing bones over 50yo, is not the same as when younger.zill wrote:Are you racing or thinking of racing?
I blow up most of the guys from my grade at training sessions twice a week, but once you know a bit about physiology you realize pitting one guy's against another's is neanderthal consciousness.
I'm not bagging it altogether, as I certainly enjoyed it. I just think you want to approach it with your eyes wide open and not avoid much much more important things in life.

08/01/15 - 78kg & 22.2% body fat;
17/01/15 - 78.3kg & 22.3% body fat;
23/01/15 - 78kg & 22.2%fat - loss of 300g & 145g of fat.
01/02/15 - 78kg & 22.2% fat - no change.
A little frustrating given I thought I had been good on the food front and I had nearly done 300km of riding with over 3500m of ascent

01 July 2014 - 114.3kg (The start of the journey)
01 Jan 2015 - 106kg
01 Feb 2015 - 107.3kg
Not going to bust myself up about this month. A combination of Xmas left-overs, holidays, my birthday, a very heavily pregnant wife (3 days overdue now), unexpectedly busy work, a cold and a nagging injury meant a poor diet and saw me with time for only 5 meagre rides this month and a 2-week lay-off from any exercise at all, including weights. Frankly, I expected worse so I'm happy that I'm not further into the hole. I'm also 120km (~2weeks) short of my ride target to-date.
But it's a new month and despite a pending arrival I'm going at it with renewed vigour. Hope to be back on the bike tomorrow!

1/2/15 93kg
weight is not moving but i suspect it has something to do with poor diet choices during January. Plenty of riding and a physically demanding job during take care of the exercise now I just need to make better choices.

Not ridden as much as i'd have liked last couple of weeks... mostly due to weather and some time off work relaxing. Diet not the best either. Happy with the maintenance at the moment.

Age: 47
Current weight: 65.0
BMI: 21.7
Waist to height ratio: 0.45
Waist to hip ratio: 0.86
So basically the same as the start of the year.
I may get a little bit lighter by year end as I intend to curb my occasional binge eating of bread.

Congratulations for pretty much taking off 25% of your bodyweight in a little over three years. Not an easy thing to do into your 30s I'd imagine without some severe habit changes?clydesmcdale wrote:198cm - 36yr old

I'm 188cm, stocky build, never been under 94kg in my adult life (i looked pretty thin then)
Through a hectic few years with work and other stresses Ive jumped back out to 115kg-ish (Ive been this heavy once before and dropped to about 100kg through cycling)
I'm making some changed with work and trying to open up more time to cycle, nothing outrageous, 100-150km a week like i used to.
Goal weight is something below 100kg, ideally 105kg for the Kona Dirty Weekend here at the start of May.

Wahoo! 2nd weigh in in a row at this figure. Stoked. My bigger weekly/monthly losses are definitely related to the volume of climbing I do on rides.TheWall wrote:After a slow start on the bike this year I have managed 522 klm in the last 12 days. Last two mornings I have weighed in at 101.0kg. Happy with progress.TheWall wrote:I am back in for 2015. Started at 116.8kg in June 14 and got to 102.8 just before Xmas.
Xmas and New Years saw a bounce to 104kg as we were camping and I did not take my bike. 12 days without a ride was torture.
Initial goal last year was 100kg but as I just signed up for the 6000klm thread [emoji15] I might set the end game for 95-96kg and see how I go.
Good luck all!
