May as well kick off the new year with a new thread;

My goal remains the same = Total 30kg Weightloss

Found some updated figures
198cm - Currently 34 years old
At heaviest;
- October 2011 118.9kg

- April 2012 108.7kg
- May 2012 106.2kg
- June 2012 105.5kg
- July 2012 103.8kg
- August 2012 101.7kg
- September 2012 99.9kg
- October 2012 97.6kg
- November 2012 97.3kg
- December 2012 97.3kg
- January 2013 96.3kg

Overall Goal 88.9kg

BMI has just tipped under into the Normal Weight Range at 24.6 (if you follow that sort of thing). Bought my first pair of 36inch jeans since I was a teenager over the weekend.
Upping the kms and looking more closely at the diet. WIll try and throw some runs and swims in too. Would like to be sub 90kg by my birthday in March and Mt Coot-tha Challenge the following weekend. Would also like to do the Gold Coast Triathlon in April (my first).

Good idea mate, count me in again.

38y.o. turning 39 this year.
188cm tall
Starting the year bang on 100kgs.

Lost around 15kgs last year, but most of it was in the last 3 months when I actually started eating a bit less. I'm down about 20kgs from my heaviest of 118-120kgs after living in America for a few years and doing the supersize me thing!

My goal for this year would be 89kgs, which is the upper end of healthy BMI for my height. I was 85-90kgs 20 years ago in uni and the army reserves and fairly fit. I could run 5km in 20min pretty easy, so if I can get back to that sort of weight as I approach 40 I'd be stoked.

I plan to do this by continuing the moderated eating and upping the kms.

Good luck all. 8)

Current Weight: 87 kg
Goal: <80 kg

My heaviest about 4 years back was 105kg. I lost most of the weight just through dieting with my wife (who lost a similar amount). I've plateaued on 87 for the last few years despite a lot of fitness activities (gym, running, cycling). Obviously in that time I've become a whole lot fitter and replaced a lot of fat with muscle, but I still weigh too much. Bad diet can easily compensate for 6700km!

Count me in. With any luck I'll achieve my goal this year

39 in August this year
177 cm (I thought I was 175  )
30.9% body fat (Dexa Scan 3/01/13)
94.3kg 09/01/13
66 Resting Heart Rate
127 / 79 BP
105.5cm Gut

Apparently my optimum weight is 83kg to 72kg

Turning 40 this year.
194cm - 6'4
Started year at 118 kg.
Today 111.2
Target 98 by April - then 92 by end of the year

Medically discharged from the Army 12 months ago due to back issues - spondylolithesis, spondylosis, several fractures. Got fitter and stronger than I had been for 15 years and lost plenty of weight. Just before D, neck injury decided to surface. Bulges, arthritis and some old fractures. Over 12 months, lost all of my gains and added 20kg. As a result back pain became worse and neck didn't improve.

Have now decided I would rather have neck pain without back pain so am cracking on. Core is tightening up and back pain is already marginally better. Have cut out all painkillers due to their effect on rational thought - Neck pain is flaring up but hey - riding is better than running!

Plan on losing weight with the help of a diet given to me by a sports physician which worked really well for me last year - low fat, low carb, balanced protein - combined with regular commuting and the occasional weekend ride.

Good luck all.

Jan 2011 127kgs
Jan 2012 125kgs after 6400kms
Jan 2013 122kgs after 6370kms

This year I will try hard to not eat so much

Adstar - have you thought about a recumbent or an upright style bike (Dutch style)? I'm no expert but that may help with alleviating your neck pain.

Thanks Kona - did think about it briefly but to be honest not sure that it would make a huge difference. Sitting, lying or standing don't make much difference so don't think there would be much benefit. If things get significantly worse I may just give it a crack though!

I'll jump in!
I didnt start losing weight by choice - I had a work accident that my huge gut stopped getting better.
I'm glad and lucky that I found activities that I like in swimming, yoga and cycling. I've already got a pretty good start

Age: 29
Height: 179cm (just under 6 foot)
Weight: 141kg (as of 2/1/2013, the last time I did a weigh in)
"Lowest point": 179kg (September 2012 - although I reckon I was heavier in April 2012, cos my gut was touching my steering wheel and my shirts were tighter. I guesstimate high-180s)
Goal: ???

My goals arent around weight - despite starting off as "huge", it was just never a positive motivation for me to judge my success or failure on a number - particularly when, even eating the same food and doing the same exercise, weight loss is pretty random when you're starting from such a high base. Its just a number.
If I were to pick a number? I'd love to get down to 90kgs - exactly half my body weight. It's doable - because when I weighed 158kgs, my body fat made up 50.7 percent of my weight. So I can keep 10kgs of that fat and be under 90 :D Thought I'd love to get rid of that, I'm already sick of carrying my huge arse up hills.

My actual goals?
Swimming: From not being fit enough to swim 50 metres in mid-November to being able to do a 2km race in November this year. (Can currently do 2km, but I need to work on speed and consistency of stamina - this is entirely achievable. To the point that I've started looking at races in March.)
Cycling: From my first ride being 6km, and nearly dying coming up the final rise on the way home - to being able to do a Canberra 3 peaks by December this year. (I was able to ride 16km on flat paths within a week before crashing, putting me out for a couple of weeks.)

Hello 2013 Losers. I am still trying to carry on from my 2012 losses, but having binged a big over Xmas (why is pudding so delicious?) I am probably not doing as well as I should. One thing I have noticed is that the numbers on my scale aren't changing, but I'm noticing physical changes and I'm having to replace certain clothing items that are now obviously too big. I guess as long as I keep seeing progress like that I'm happy, but I would really really like it if the numbers on the scales would move, even just a little big.

I'm in for the first time.

Age: 53
Height: 185 cm
Current Weight: 117 kg
Goal: below 100 kg

Would really love to do a longer bike ride over multiple days. Need to loose weight and build up bike fitness first. I want to be consistent with commuting to work by bike. At the moment the commute is 22km return, but moving soon, and the commute drops to 5km return, so will have to have a scenic route to extend the commute.

Crept down a bit in Jan. Hit 86.0kg this morning, which I was happy with despite not really putting the effort in that I should! I have fluctuated between 86 and 87 so the trick now is to make the end of this month read 85

Nice one, steady loss is always good to see

- October 2012 97.6kg
- November 2012 97.3kg
- December 2012 97.3kg
- January 2013 96.3kg

Was going to weigh in tomorrow morning after a big ride, but looks like that's been canned by SWMBO.
Anyway, looks like it's been a good month for me. With a bit of discipline should get me to the goal before my birthday mid March.

- February 2013 93.6kg

15months ago there was very little in the wardrobe that fit me, same applies today for the opposite reason.

Overall Goal 88.9kg

Hey guys first post on BNA,
I started riding about 12months ago, bought a MTB (Avanti Torrent), plan was to get fitter to ride my dirtbike, I have now ridden my MTB more than my dirtbike and fell in love with riding.
I have just recently purchased a road bike (Avanti Cadent) and even bought the girlfriend a MTB (Avanti Forte 29er).
I like Avanti's  and when your mate owns the store it makes it easier and cheaper to ride them...
I used to play footy and cricket as a kid up until I finished school and started working, I am now 23yo and have let myself go...
I have always been on the bigger side but was always active before I started working fulltime.

Age: 23
Height:179cms
Heaviest - 122.6kgs.
Goal weight - 85-90kgs.
January 1st 2013 - 118.9kgs
February 1st 2013 - 112.4kgs

So I've lost 6.5kgs so far this year basically from eating clean and staying away as much as possible from alcohol.
I am aiming to up my exercise regime from February onwards, which currently is maybe 2 or 3 rides a week.
Aiming for treadmill HIIT runs, more riding, preseason at footy etc

Looking forward to losing more weight and overall being fitter and healthy for longer rides and a more enjoyable life!!!

Cheers,
Ash

good work clydesmcdale. You're well on track to be sub-90!

I plateued a bit in January. Have been 98-99kgs for what seems like weeks, so hopefully I'll see a 97 soon to give me some hope. I bought a new shirt the other day and it was only an "XL". I actually tried on a "L" and it was almost doable. Just need to lose a bit more flab around the moobs and guts.

Age: 28
Height: 197 cm/6'4
Current Weight: 104 kg
Goal: 92 kg

Heaviest was in late 2009 when I ballooned out to 137kg! Lightest I've been was late last year when I got down to 98kg. I seem to have plateaued around 102-103kg and no matter how hard I try each time I get under 100kg I come back up. Forked out and bought a good bike that fits me after riding hand me downs and have decided to get serious about getting down to <95kg. I rode up Mt. Buller on the weekend and would love to go back and have a crack carrying 10kg less...

Well, I'm on a loser mission, so why not put it in writing.

Age: 38 in March
Weight 1/1/2013: 87 kg
Height: 178 cm

Weight has gradually crept up most of my life, but started really adding up in my early 30s. I broke through 90kg when I was about 35, and could see no reason why I wouldn't hit triple figures by 40... which is apparently when it starts being difficult to keep weight off

Last summer I was down to 82, but I earned another 5kg over winter and it's in no hurry to leave. For all of Strava's faults, it tells me that I'm substantially slower up hills this year than I was last year.

I've been hitting the road pretty hard so far this year, and trying to make sustainable changes to my eating habits. I'm down into the 85 kg range so far, but don't want to lose momentum [1]. Winters in Ballarat are dismal, so I know I won't keep the activity up quite as high during those months... so I need to make a good start before it gets miserable.

I'd love to see a number starting with "7" on the scales one day. Most realistically, I hope to get back to 82 this summer, maintain it over winter, then lose a bit more before the end of the year.

tim

[1] momentum = mass * velocity. If I lose some mass, maybe I'll gain some velocity to keep the same momentum :-D

Okay... Start of January 99.9kg... End if January 96.2 kg...

So that is a good start...

Clocked up 1000 km for January...

Big food changes:
- less milk
- no rice or pasta
- regular small snacks throughout the day to keep the metabolism ticking over
- no seconds at dinner
Loving my Merida's and working towards adding a Pinarello to the stable... Go go go...

Nice work on the weight loss clydesmcdale. Curious what your diet looks like and does/doesn't consist of? and also what training are you doing per week?
