I've had a 2-3 week pause on the wt loss. Lost almost 10kg in 12 weeks, but then got the dreaded lurgy along with everyone else in the office.
At least I haven't put on anything in that time, well maybe half a kg.

so back into this week with a vengeance. sub 80kg here I come.

And as predicted, 81.5 seems to be the new baseline.

Expecting a few transient ups and downs after smashing myself pretty hard on Amy's Gran Fondo on Sunday, but I seem to be maintaining the 81-82 kg range. Weighed myself in the morning once last week, and was about 80.7, but that's not my standard measurement time so it doesn't count.

I have an interesting update. I spent 8 weeks eating less and moving more: cutting down on junk food, picking healthier options, eating less overall and exercising a lot more. I started a running program three times a week, with running workouts lasting between 30 and 50 minutes. After 8 weeks I weighed the exact same number as at the start: 94 kg.

Then I got the dreaded lurgy too, followed by having a wart frozen off my heal, minor head surgery and a nasty head cold while recovering. Due to all that for the last 2 1/2 weeks I have not been able to exercise at all, not even riding. I have eaten much more junk ("comfort") food and have not been able to even walk any distance. Based on calorie theory, I should have gained weight but I didn't. I weigh the exact same number as 10 1/2 weeks ago: 94 kg. Seems like I am stuck on that weight for now.

There is something interesting though. I am noticeably 'fatter' after slacking off and eating junk. 8 weeks of running and eating well saw me lose almost a belt notch but my belt is tight again on that same notch :(

Bottom line is I am still at 94 kg. Still, spring is a good time to spring clean what I am eating and to head down under 90 by the end of the year.

seems like you lost muscle mass and gained fat, which makes sense.

Haven't posted since last year... fluctuated not too much over the last 12 months or... but i think i't being kept in check by activity levels only. Diet is sub-par and starting to show signs of creeping. Would rather get on top of it now, rather than let it get out of hand.

Starting to find myself struggling a bit on fast rides when the hills go up a touch... at least relatively so compared to when I was at my lightest. My cardio has definitely improved this year, but the physics of it are catching up with me trying to carry a few more kgs up the hills.

Concerted effort now to try and achieve my goal this year. Will be difficult, but will give it a shot. Hopefully spelling it out helps.

Weight now 75 kg

Height 173 cm

I'm 55. When I was married in 1986 I weighted 60 kg - I have a lean build.

Even 75 kg is too heavy, my goal is 70.

I haven't made any significant dietary changes - less beer and coke. Cycle for about 5 hours a week.

sounds like you could aim for 60kg flash.
it's likely you have less lean tissue than at that time, so even if you make 60, your bodyfat % will be higher than way back when!
anyway, chipping away at it has advantages

Update.

26/7 Big day today....confirmed 2nd day in a row of measuring at 109.9kg (making sure it was no fluke!). 1st time under 110kg in I think about 4 years...

On a side issue, do people in this thread always check in on the scales at the same time of day? I have picked 1st thing in the morning as it seems like it would be the most consistent measurement time without the interference of food and drink?

Time for fortnightly/monthly spot check in. Weighed in at 109.5 and I am much fitter than last month with an avge of 200klm plus per week now the norm. Even cranked out a pretty hilly 100klm on Sunday around Noosa and hinterland.

Saw consistently low108's last week so my thinking is that my body is still in recovery from the 100 and it is retaining fluid in this time. Seems to be consistent with others in this thread.

Will revert to the now standardb30-50 klm rides as that seems to be the thing that is working.

We all should be pretty happy with the results listed here and even if the benefits are not showing on the scales all of the time, I reckon the story on the inside of the body would be all good news.

Bit late on the monthly check in. Shocker of a month as had several man flu's that raged through my work. Went three weeks without a ride!!!

Gone back to short rides with a quicker tempo and actually managed to set three PB's in the last week. I have a 32klm course that has very few possible interruptions such as traffic lights etc and after a year of trying I finally cracked the hour! Well it was 59m &56s so I will take it. Not quite Mr Voight but...

Anyways, been weighing in this week it between 106 to 106.5 so that means I have lost 10+ kgs since mid June. That makes me smile. On track for 100kg by Christmas.

Some amazing results on this thread.

sounds like you could aim for 60kg flash.
it's likely you have less lean tissue than at that time, so even if you make 60, your bodyfat % will be higher than way back when!
anyway, chipping away at it has advantages
Not sure want to be at 60 kg again. Muscle mass is greater now, but so is % fat :( burn the fat keep the muscle :D

This particular weight loss yo-yo is back, for a late run at 2014 weight loss.

Have made major lifestyle changes this year involving a sea change, and full transition out of my old job & into a new one with the same company (it has been a long slow transition to get someone else permanently appointed to my old role so I can ove fully across to the new one).

As part of the sea change I am now back on the bike, mainly as recreation, utility riding and multi-modal commuting, but with a bit of fitness riding thrown in.

Current weight 85kg
Target weight 75kg

I've just spent 8 days in Fiji eating bacon & eggs for breakfast, and burgers, fries and pizzas for the occasional lunch and dinner most nights. And all this came at the end of a busy week where I got no exercise at all (no weights, no rides). So it was with much trepidation that I stepped onto the scales this morning...

...and discovered I was 1 kg lighter than my last weigh-in just before I left! :shock:

I'm still reeling at that reading but all I can put it down to is dead-lifting a wriggling 13kg mass about 50 times a day, and carrying said mass some 1km each day. I spent most of my day on my feet, or in a pool chasing a toddler, rather than sitting on my backside behind a desk. Still, it's remarkable considering my diet, which was more-or-less forced upon me by circumstance. :|

I did get to do one ride - a resort tour which probably covered a km or two - with my daughter on-board for the 1st time. She absolutely loved it, and protested loudly on our first stop to dismount and look around. "Bike go faster Daddy" she coached from the rear several times on the tour. Having said that, we went down a few short hills near the end which she didn't like at all. "No more big hills Daddy". Don't know if it could be considered "retro steel" but a 3-speeder with back-pedal brakes was a first for me at least. Mine even had a disc front brake, though my wife's ride had a traditional rim brake. It was a good introduction to the bike for my daughter, and good to get my wife involved... though at 22 weeks pregnant it'll be the last ride she does for quite a while. :D

And just a little reminder for me that cycling is actually doing me good; I've only done ~450km so far but at one point I effortlessly cruised past a guy who looked in considerably better shape than me struggling up a small incline on the same bike as me, and I had my daughter on the back.

I lost 3kg in 2 weeks (79>76kg) - all I had to do was ride 840km and climb over 15000m .....

Moved house Saturday... Dropped 3kgs.

Went to the SANFL grand final yesterday.... Put on 3kgs at least (damn corporate hospitality!)...

But looks like around a net 1kg drop for the week.

It's that time of the month again. September weigh-in:

1st Jul - 114.5 kg
1st Aug - 112.8 kg
1st Sept - 111.2 kg
1st Oct - 107.3 kg

Starting to really hit my stride and my body has finally decided to come along for the ride. Even after a week of debauchery in Fiji (where I inexplicably lost 1kg) it has been a good month. And just this week I survived my first MTB session (Manly Dam), did a PB (distance-wise - 52km) and pushed my average speed over 20kph for the 1st time (30km ride). Jut when I thought 100kg by NYE was out of reach, it looks like I might still be in contention. :D

On the down side, my wife just won a 4.5kg Toblerone from the Cheesecake Factory. :cry:

Survived a week away on holiday without logging any food, and without a bike to ride, without being particularly conservative about my food choices... and didn't put on any weight. Phew.

Haven't lost any for a few weeks either though.
Steady on 81.5kg. As light as I've been in living memory.
(Down from 86 at the end of July (down-up-down from 95 about 4 years ago), aiming for 79.9).

Now the weather is improving, I'm riding more. Using MFP and making vaguely sensible food choices, I actually have trouble reaching my kJ target on riding days. So it's hard to imagine more riding not leading to more energy deficit and more weight loss.

A goal of 79.9 really just says "I'd like to get my weight below 80kg".

No particular reason... it's just a round number.

I can't remember the last time I saw a number on the scales that starts with a 7.

My weight only ever went one direction. I nudged 95kg when I was 35. It was depressing. I saw no realistic scenario that wouldn't end up with me hitting triple figures by the time I turned 40. Common knowledge is that 40 is when your weight starts getting harder to manage. Fat, old and unhealthy. So much to look forward to.

Why was the prospect of weighing 100kg depressing? No particular reason, it's just a round number. A big round number.

I'm not sure I believe in the concept of an "ideal weight". I'm in better shape now than I was 5kg ago, which is better than it was 5kg before that. But I still have spare body mass that I could do without. How much? No idea.

Now I am planning to be below 80kg by the end of this year. After that... I have no idea. Will cross that bridge when I get there.

I turn 40 in March. I will not weigh triple figures. I'm chalking that up as a win already.

I misconstrued your comment as being an ultimate goal. Makes sense!

In my early 20's I was supremely fit and hovered around 70kg, even dropped to 67kg once to qualify as a lightweight. Could eat whatever I pleased.
By the time I entered my 30's I was 85kg but still very fit, though I was doing weights as well.
At 40, I was around 100kg, no longer "fighting fit" but still playing soccer and weight training.
Since then (I'm 48) my weight has crept up slowly each year. When I stopped playing soccer a few years ago, it ballooned to 114.5kg on July 1st this year, when I decided that something had to be done (hence the bike!)

Personally, I find the biggest challenge in later years is time, and injuries. I had (am having!) kids late so that compounds the issue for me. Sure, you need to be more careful with food, but if you put in the effort it's not too difficult to lose. At least, not at the top end of the scales! I'd imagine that last 100g is going to be a killer! Injuries linger which hampers exercise... catch-22. :(

I don't either. The 'ideal' height/weight charts are complete and utter rubbish; even at my peak of fitness with a six-pack I was classified 'obese'. Body fat percentage is what matters.

Time for an update.

I had aimed to be 90kg by christmas but might need to reassess.

July 15th 97kg
August 5th 95Kg
October 3rd 92Kg
I rode 500km in August, 150km in September and aiming to hit about 600km in October. Still using the gym at work and while not counting calories im just maintaining healthy choices.

That's working for me too. I counted calories for about a month until I got a good idea of what I can and can't eat, in which quantities. I'll probably settle on about 90km a week but with the weights and keeping tabs on the diet it appears to be enough!

Fast 75km ride yesterday morning, followed by 2 hours of lawn mowing... trying to keep hydrated but failing. Weighed myself before freshening up in the shower before late lunch:

79.8kg!

Not maintainable, and not my usual weigh-in time, but that's the first time I've been under 80 since forever. Teenage years maybe?

Next step is to make it stick...

Rate has slowed as it always gets harder towards the pointy end of the goal. Not to mention I have had some slip ups this month as work has been pretty full on. However, I am much fitter and stronger on the bike. I now consistently record times that would have been a dream 4 months ago and I am continually pushing my 'boundaries' in terms of specific sections of rides.

I have found the Garmin has helped me improve as well as it helps me stick to expectations I set for myself.
