TheWall wrote:Rate has slowed as it always gets harder towards the pointy end of the goal. Not to mention I have had some slip ups this month as work has been pretty full on. However, I am much fitter and stronger on the bike. I now consistently record times that would have been a dream 4 months ago and I am continually pushing my 'boundaries' in terms of specific sections of rides.

I have found the Garmin has helped me improve as well as it helps me stick to expectations I set for myself.
Nice going! I've had a shocker so far this month, about 2kg heavier than I started in. Haven't been doing anything radically bad, so a bit confused. Have to be super-good for the next fortnight!

As for progress on the bike, ditto here! Have a mate come for a few rides recently - he's keen to join in 2/week - and I'm waiting for him at the top of every hill!

I picked up a Suunto Ambit and it's great for testing yourself. Trying to keep up or better my average speed on my usual courses!

I guess it's time to revise my target down to 75kg... and update my wardrobe for summer.

there's nothing to discuss. most know the barrel pushed by evans, wilson, and gillespie.

as for the heart foundation's message, the foods they recommend are probably better than fast food choices.
nevertheless, their first choice is to eat unprocessed or very low processed foods....and anyone serious about health will go with that.

the whole sugar issue is confounded by studies into denovo lipogenesis.

So I shudder to think where I am at the moment, I'm not game to get on the scales. Eating lots of rubbish and not doing much walking or cycling has me well over 90 at a guess.

I found myself thinking during the climbing of Fitz's yesterday that my additional 10kg is like having to climb using my old body with a 10kg weight plate tucked into the back of my jersey, or carrying an extra bike (my bike weighs in at 10.1).

Time to get serious, I don't like being this fat.

As a reformed sugar addict, I find most of the studies into real world (as opposed to clinical trial) completely miss the point. I got into a situation where I was eating so much sugar that my quality of life dropped to the point where I felt I had no choice other than to start eating differently. For a long time I was eating virtually no sugar. Now I eat some, but I never have felt the cravings return. My total weight gain from lightest to heaviest was in the order of 40kg or so. I didn't keep exact numbers so I don't have a precise number for this.

However, as pointed out by many researchers, sugar is not the only food that causes people to binge eat. I can open up a packet of flavoured corn chips to potato crisps and eat half to three quarters of a packet before dinner... and still eat a normal dinner. So I am not reducing future calories because of the extra calories consumed. These are superflous calories that are in excess of what a need. Not good when trying to maintain weight.

Aces buddy! But faaaaaaaark you're a tall bloke. Few of my rowing mates (just a few lazy Olympics between them) who are they tall are heavier than your goal.

Feeling short at 191cm.

Started off early July around the 140 mark. Down to 123.2 this AM.

It's that time of the month again. October weigh-in:

1st Jul - 114.5 kg
1st Aug - 112.8 kg
1st Sept - 111.2 kg
1st Oct - 107.3 kg
1st Nov - 105.3 kg

I always seem to start off the month with an increase - for instance this month after 2 weeks I was back to square 1 - and then make it up for it in the last part of the month. Not sure if it's coincidental, or knowing that I've got 4 weeks until my next milestone, or a combination of both. Anyway, still happy with 0.5kg/week. :)

It's safe to say that 100kg by NYE is out of the question now, especially given that silly season involves bad food and plenty of drinking. I'll be happy with a 10kg loss by the end of it all, then looking forward to BNA Losers Club 2015!

34y/o Man (or so I like to call myself)

182cm
104KG

Lost 12 KG's in 2012 but have seemed to plateau for a while now. Hoping to reach 97KG by Christmas.

I live in Brisbane and commute to Fortitude Valley 4 days a week, however normally in Monday, home Tuesday, in Wednesday, home Thursday.

Total is approximately 84km per week (21km each way). Also watching what I eat, including portion control which is a big thing for me.

Recently finished the Brisbane Ride to Conquer Cancer and the Gold Coast Challenge, and loving how much fitter and better I am feeling on the bike.

Will more than likely do fortnightly weigh in's - lets hope I can continue this.

Thanks

July 15th 97kg
August 5th 95Kg
October 3rd 92Kg
November 10th 91Kg

I rode 600km in Ocotber plus the gym at work and lost nothing during the month. So far in November I havent been on the bike due to a nasty cold and am 1Kg down. However other than the cold I am feeling healthier and fitter so sometimes its not so much about the weight loss but general health and wellbeing.

Hoping to be back on the bike this week for a few rides.

Another couple of weeks putting in some decent effort on the diet front seems to have paid off... no far to go... just have to avoid the extra unnecessary calories and maintain the activity levels.

Another month on, and hovering around 78kg. Last night put me at 77.9kg, so I'm still doing about 0.5kg/week.

So... 8kg lost since August. If I'd stayed fat and taken the weight off my bike, I'd be riding a helium balloon by now

Hills are getting sooooo much easier now :-D

Never really looked in here before, by my story is

2011/2 peaked weight at about 105Kg for 174cm tall.
Suffered from Metabolic Syndrome / Type 2 Diabetic / Severe Sleep apnea /High Blood Pressure / High Cholesterol
Went on a low carb diet (not really low, just lower).
Now hovering around 83Kg, still on Lipitor and Amlo , but really low dose, cholesterol is at 3.8, BP around 130/80.
No more need for the CPAP machine (anyone want to buy a SH resmed s9 with humidifier)

Had a recent CAT scan for heart condition and have absolutely no build up , so years of dietary and sedentary abuse can be turned around :)
Glucose response is now normal, so I've also reveresed type 2 diabetes :)

Nice work! I'm looking to emulate those figures somewhat myself (+10kg start/end). Was told yesterday by my GP that my blood pressure needs to be a little bit lower...

I'm afraid my November figures will be rather disappointing. Ended up losing 2+ weeks with my bike out of commission (resulting in warranty replacement of my rear brakes) and my 'depression' due to not riding went hand-in-hand with careless eating/drinking. Right now I'm staring at an additional 2-3kg from my October weigh-in.

Regardless, back to the grind-stone and stricter diet on Monday!

nice work. re your diet, the point is you ate less than you burned off. what are you eating now that you have lost the weight.
