I was pretty complacent the last year and a half in respect to weight loss. I made big inroads to upping my bike time and even took on a training schedule mid last year. My focus is track, and so I have been spending time on the weights to increase strength as well as increasing bike fitness. Back in 2012, I had hit 120kg, down from 140kg+ in 2010. Over the last year and a half, with the increase workload, I had kept level at 120kg, but had traded a lot of body fat for muscle. So turning into 2014, I have made a point of eating better. No diets, just watching what I eat more diligently. So far, since Aust day long weekend, I have dropped from just over 120kg to the current 115.7 this morning. But, this year, I want to make some strength gains and am wondering if that may mean I have trouble descending the scale. We will just have to wait and see, but I have high hopes!
I find it interesting looking back over where I was at the start of the year and what I had mapped out for myself. Back in June I weighed in at 116.4kg. Back on 13th Oct I weighed in at 120.4kg. I wasn't eating badly, just not so strict on eating well. I was at the end of a winter of 4x weights sessions per week and that is where the weight gain came from because I was continuing to drop size/fat. On 13th Oct, I bagan taking a stab at the 5:2 Fast Diet. The intent was not for weight loss, but rather the other benefits touted. I have enjoyed taking this on as it's not like a regular diet where you need to be strict all through the week. I take a time out so to speak for 2 days a week, and after being initially apprehensive, I have found it quite easy. Anyway, as of this morning, I have hit 111.9kg, so dropping about 1kg/week. Despite the diet, I have still been racing our short summer road courses (20-25km) each week and also racing track each Friday night. I'm still getting faster, with my F200 time 2 weeks ago improving by 0.4sec on early in the season. So it looks like I could actually realistically reach my goal of 110kg for the year!
