Thanks for the thoughts guys. And funny that you should refer to the mental impact. That has been as much a struggle as the physical side effects. I should look into some counseling.Dave-in-LK wrote: Keep yourself healthy mate, stay strong. Pulling for you mate.
Do you have a counsellor also to work on the mental stuff?

Went from cycling 300kms per week to barely walking out the front door. Was too weak to function. Lost major muscle mass so there is nothing left for cycling.
The good news is now I can look forward to getting back on the bike. Can't see myself going very far or fast for a while. Might start with a 10-15 km ride and see how I go.

Great news! Slow and steady is the key, just work on getting some slow k's in for now. Hopefully the news is all good for you.Paul B wrote:That's it. 48 weeks done. Around 6,000 pills, 48 injections. The treatment was a horror show, I just felt really sick for the entirety. So 12 weeks and I will know if it worked

Yea. I believe I may have been the last Aussie to go on that programme. The latest treatment can be as short as 12 weeks, as opposed to the 48 I did.Dave_C wrote:Good news Paul
Hoe you now regain you fitness.
I have heard there is a new treatment that teh PBS has just OK'ed now i think its with cabinet. Hopefully for others they won't have the horrid time you have been thru
I'm 4 weeks post treatment now. Been walking to build back the lost muscle mass and went for the first ride yesterday. Slow but 42 ks in 2 hours. Feel a bit smashed today but it's a start at least.
I have an appointment booked with an exercise physiologist and am joining a gym for a while. Anyhow, there is a good chance I am clear of the virus so all is good.

Tentatively back on the bike, but the impact of the drugs and a full year of complete inactivity have left me a little smashed.

I'm back on the bike and working my way into form. The impact of the drugs and the lack of activity for a full year has impacted me harder than I thought it would. I'm back at the start again. Even short one hour rides hurt. All good though. Every ride brings me one step closer to getting back with the bunch. And I do have one cycling buddy who gets me out on a decent ride once a week.
It's great to be back out there again !!! Life's great... so blessed.

Firstly thank you for this. I just read the whole thread then.
Society will always hold a stigma against items they don't know or understand. I'll be honest I still do in many cases with items and given my sexual encounters I consider myself very lucky to not have contracted something.
I just saw you were from Hobart. If you were in Perth or near I would come and make a weekly thing to ride with you. We all have battles and struggles in life and it's about sharing that with others.
Keep going and keep us posted.
As others have said, more knowledge is only better for society.
