torn urethra
Postby jules21 » Tue Nov 25, 2014 3:24 pm
ate dinner before telling the missus and then got her to drop me off at hospital. i highly recommend not injuring your junk, the medical treatments are exclusively lacking in fun. it turns out i had a small hematoma on the urethra - mercifully saving me from surgery. but the x-ray and camera inspections - oh man...
there's something disconcerting about having teams of male and female doctors congregating around your exposed genitals and inserting stuff up inside.. but that is soon forgotten when the sensations take over

My old man had his prostate out a year ago and he said he very quickly lost any residual feelings of embarrassment about having his bits poked about by all and sundry.

does or can do a lot of damage. Few days in hospital and many stitches later, a few months recovery, and
things worked again. Still have some very localised pain, and am told its permanent.

A mate has had a bout of kidney stones and the treatment is something to not want as well.
I had to stop him from giving me an inight to the process, so I sympathise.

At least you know where it's coming from. It's a lot worse if you start to pee blood and there's no obvious cause.jules21 wrote:thanks everyone, all the best GH and dungee.

I bet you'll take much better care of your hydraulic brakes from now on.

I certainly can sympathize with you, 5 years ago after I had a Prostate Biopsy I was peeing blood clots, I went off to ED only to have an irrigation catheter (much larger than a normal catheter) placed up my urethra, it was one of the most painful experiences I have ever had, as it turned out the blood clots cleared naturally and I did not need the catheter inserted but they left it in all night and gave me some local anesthetic gel to place around the tip, it hurt when peeing for months after but that was the least of my problems, the Radical Prostatectomy that I had a few weeks later was another very unpleasant experience.

thanks again guys
TonyB - that is eye-watering stuff.. i had a camera inserted through a catheter. they had a sheet up (initially i was told i would be under a general anesthetic.. my pulse increased a bit when i realised it would be just a local) so i couldn't see what they were doing, but it seems the catheter goes into the tip, which allows for insertion of the camera. it was mercifully quick, but i didn't know how long it was going to take and the intensity certainly caused me to panic a bit. the night before they'd inserted a catheter to inject some contrast dye for an x-ray. that wasn't fun but this was worse!
i'm still passing a bit of blood every now and then - i 'squashed' it this morning and that resulted in some bleeding. but otherwise it seems to be healing.

Your experience does not sound good, I hope you get better soon, one bit of advice I will give you is not to get back on your bike before you have fully healed an extra week or two to heal could save you a much longer stint off the bike, as recently has happened to my training mate, he got on the bike to soon after a recent Prostate Biopsy is now not able to ride until Feb.

Tony, unfortunately i've been training like a dog for Tour of Bright, so not so easy (it's in a week's time). the doc did give me the OK to ride - the prostate gland is in a more vulnerable position for riding than my... umm, old fella.

An ex girlfriend once rode me like a Stolen BMX and i thought it was broken.
Another incident whilst ironing a shirt naked was particularly painful too.
