The interesting thing for me is that I haven't lost any weight at all in 6 weeks. My waist is down 4 cm or 5 cm but my weight is exactly the same as the start!CKinnard wrote:I had the shoo glue out a few weeks ago repairing the backing of a shorter 'leather' belt that had been in the wardrobe for years. I agree waist circumference gets down to the meaty business end of losing weight.

If anything, I'm packing a little bit of weight back on (was down to 74kg, have seen 76 fairly often lately, but my weight swings around a bit day to day), but my body shape is still shifting around. Even my riding buddies commented this morning that my @rse seems to have disappeared... and I guess they'd know, having spent time sitting behind my lycra-clad shape throughout the entire process.
I think I'll try and be a bit more careful with what I eat for a while and make sure I don't slide backwards. I've been eating pretty badly lately, so it won't be difficult to smarten up a bit.

yeah it's a trap to go back to eating rubbish, as a reward!, after you lose significant weight.barefoot wrote:I think I'll try and be a bit more careful with what I eat for a while and make sure I don't slide backwards. I've done a bit of the same in the last 4 days, so weight loss has paused.

I'm talking about putting on about a kilo over the last 2 months.CKinnard wrote:yeah it's a trap to go back to eating rubbish, as a reward!, after you lose significant weight.barefoot wrote:I think I'll try and be a bit more careful with what I eat for a while and make sure I don't slide backwards. I mentioned before that I was having trouble stopping losing weight - getting my head around deliberately putting some extra kilojoules back in my diet. Once I had my weight loss eating pattern sorted, it was pretty easy to stick to, and "less is better" is an easy position to hold.
To maintain weight I need to exercise moderation, which is something I've proven pretty bad at for 40 years. I used MyFitnessPal to help identify what things I needed to cut out of my diet to maintain my energy target and lose weight (except for very rare occasions) - and re-introducing them a little bit to increase my energy intake enough to maintain weight is a tricky balancing act.
It's not rocket science to go back the other way for a while now. Cut the junk again. At least the chocolate and fruit bun season is over, so that will help. By the way, did anyone else notice just how ridiculously well hot cross buns go with stout? No, probably not, you're all eating sensibly. Sorry.
Unfortunately not. But let's face it, there are few secrets in a road bunch, and not much else to look at when you're drafting.singlespeedscott wrote:Hopefully it's the ladies commenting on your butt and not the gents

62.8 Kg so up 0.2 Kg since last week.
BMI 21.0
Waist:
75cm so same as last week.
WHtR 0.434
WHpR 0.833
A bit more fat and a bit less exercise than usual.
Now reduced the nuts & seeds so shouldn't be gaining weight by next week.

So what I am having to realize is if I surpass a threshold of riding volume, I dis-stress myself, and my appetite goes awry.
So now i am 83kg. and waist is 97cm.
Time to calm down and calmly re-focus on the bigger picture, rather than ride ever faster, higher, longer.

If I have an emotionally demanding afternoon at work (often the case), then go do an hour at the track with intervals (ie. 3x10mins; or 1x20,1x10,1x5), I often have sugar and salt pangs on the way home....so it is easy to stop and buy a bottle of wine and corn chips and a tomato salsa dip or similar.TonyMax wrote:What are you using to appease your appetite? Choose more wisely what you use to fill in the hunger gaps?
I think I have to get more fruit and water into me on those afternoons, rather than trying to tough it out til dinner.
I could also be questioning my life balance....and why I feel a need to do high intensity training, rather than age more gracefully

That's interesting. Provided you fuel right beforehand, HIIT should actually reduce your appetite, not increase it. Maybe have a look at what you are eating before, in preparation. Currently my HIIT is a run training session that goes for 1/2 hour. If I eat an apple, banana and small serve of sweet potato pudding (boiled sweet potato and coconut milk) about an hour before, then I notice my appetite is blunted for dinner. I eat about 1/2 hour before I leave work, ride home (1/2 hour), run interval training (1/2 hour), drink water, make dinner, eat. I have not been hungrier after training at all. Since you don't like fat, maybe some fruit and a small amount of cold baked or boiled sweet potato would be good?CKinnard wrote:If I have an emotionally demanding afternoon at work (often the case), then go do an hour at the track with intervals (ie. 3x10mins; or 1x20,1x10,1x5), I often have sugar and salt pangs on the way home....so it is easy to stop and buy a bottle of wine and corn chips and a tomato salsa dip or similar.

My glycogen stores would be running lower than normal so I am not going to cope with too much HIIT before getting a bit bonky.
The other thing is, it makes a world of difference if I can get 30minutes of horizontal between work and training. SOmetimes, even just 10 minutes sees me out like a light, and up quite refreshed and ready to go punch out a top effort.

Yes, true. I forgot about your 500 Calorie deficit.CKinnard wrote:CC, where I am pushing it is doing HIIT on a 500 Calorie deficit and low starch intake.

Am 5'11" above the surface, was 103 KG at start of year.
Currently, as at last weigh, am 95kg. Paleo diet seems to help, but a bit of up and down a bit with the commitment in the last few weeks doesn't and has slowed progression. I'll be aiming to get down to 85 by the end of the year.

I'm just off night shift too.
Weigh in:
63.2 so 0.4 up on last week. BMI 21.1
Waist:
74.5 so 0.5 down. WHtR 0.431
I ditched walnuts and added a little more linseed about a week ago to see what would happen. Waist decrease is more important than weight decrease, so good result so far.
