Protein Shakes

Postby Parker » Wed Feb 11, 2015 2:37 pm

As we're all elite athlete in need of keeping our protein levels high we obviously need to drink protein shakes throughout the day at all times to maintain our eliteness.

Whats the worst tasting one that you've had?

I'm currently trying out a brand called Raw, I've got the protein isolate vanilla flavoured one, it's vegan and I was like. "Sure Ro, go try something different that's pure and stuff... and different"

STAY AWAY It's actually disgusting, possibly due to the lack of chemicals, lack of flavor and artificial colours, or maybe it's because I mix with water because I don't love milk and I'm not into nut milks... but for the love of (that guy Christopher doesn't like us mentioning on here) its ghastly.

been there, done that, they're also usually high in sugar albeit natural sugar and some of them are highly addictive like the Peanut Butter Better Balls by the chick on Oh She Glows, amazingly good...

I use the musashi sports protein carb matrix, 21g of protein and 23g of carbs (as an elite endurance athlete, sorry, commuter, I figured I needed some carbs to maintain ennergy and weight when I started topping 200kms a week). It's chocolate flavour and mixes in water to a decent shake consistency and genuinely tastes nice. Quite expensive, I can get 2 x 1.25kg packs delivered for $100. I ran out the other week and went through a variety of sample packs I had from previous deliveries, all tasted horrid and were extremely watery. Glad to have the good stuff back, although I'm sure I probably don't actually need it

Utterly revolting (got it really cheap- like free)-I would rather drink chocolate milk filtered through someones sweaty/used bib tights

Are your shakes like delirium tremens or just the involuntary shudder when you drink something that tastes bitter ? :D

Beer has protein doesn't it?

I remember trying some of that a few years ago. It was creamy heaven.

Any reason you prefer casein over whey?
Which is cheaper nowadays ?

I buy protein NZ WPI whey (http://machinesupplements.com.au/product/nz-wpi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Its at best 'average' tasting eg awful but if mixed with this type of diluted cordial (http://shop.coles.com.au/online/mobile/ ... tters-diet" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) it's actually pretty ok tasting and its not an ordeal to use. Until I tried the cordial trick, I doubt I'd have touched it after the first weeks use.

STAY AWAY.
Nothing and I mean NOTHING comes close to chocolate pea protein in absolute awfulness!!!
I got it once when I was trying to diet without using dairy. Imagine tasting a watery chocolate cordial with pea undertones!
Almost all the flavoured protein powders taste better when made up with skim milk.
I now use Aussie Bodies Protein FX Lo Carb which tastes great. My 14yr old boy rower uses Musashi P30 High Protein powder and thinks it's ok but is getting a bit sick of it.
Good luck finding something to your taste!

That's it! Blended with some ice is perfect.

I mix both wpi and casein, mainly because I bought way too much for a 12 week fitness program I did a little while ago.

WPI from Bulk Nutrients is all I use. Even when I competed and needed to deplete, that's the bees knees Rowena!

Good quality clean protein I have been getting mine from https://professionalwhey.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No additives tastes ok and they have a good range of different protein types not just a mixed bag that's cheap to make.

I am reasonably sure that MB is very much pro-protein, just a question of form.

I think equating the need for water with protein powder should count in the stupid comment competition, no...?
