In the 2 or so years since my commute went to 54km round trip, I've actually got fatter, since I've decided it entitles me to whatever second-breakfasts, muffins & chocolate etc I feel like. The extended commute is the result of moving in with my S.O. who has a convenience foods and sugar habit like you wouldn't believe. The way it worked in my head was that I would assume full control over the household food regime and be a good influence on him to his eternal gratitude. Yeah no, that concept unfolded a bit backwards and now I have concerns about blocking out the sun.
The turning point arrived when we spent 10 days on a cruise ship over Christmas. Now I am generally circumspect about fat-shaming so let's just say it was a frightful premonition of our future selves and we bought a bathroom scale on the way home from the terminal.
Boring story short, currently 72.7, in my chandelier-swinging youth I was 60 and would like to be again. I'll shoot for 65 this year I think.
Also: been alcohol-free since March and will probably stay that way.

Cheers Baalzamon! It is hard but the wife is on board to quit as well and it certainly makes the effort easier.Baalzamon wrote:Good on you for quitting smoking! Anyway...
04/01 - 105.1 Kgs
No goals... But feeling positive the weight will fall of this year for two reasons. Going back to full time employment after 7.5 years working at home ( to close to the fridge ). Reason two cutting out 100% anything processed ... No added sugar ever again

I'm presently 117kg's in the morning before brekky and over 118kgs evening weight after dinner.
My workpants are 117 CMs (these are the best indications as i'm never out of them it seems)
My Goals...I want to be under 100kg's before end of 2016.
Gonna give it my best shot.
I see how some of you have some tables or apps that are aligned in your posts....how can I use these and have them posted in here on a Month to Month basis?
Cheers

Really only 2.7 as I was back at 103 by the time the full 12 months had completed.TonyMax wrote:4.7kg loss of weight for the year is not a 'failed miserably'. Sure you may wish you had done better but that's more than I lost last year .
I am going to stick to my guns this year. Being so overweight is affecting my mental health too.

I'm 187cm tall so I don't get to be 'normal' (according to BMI) until I get to 87.5kg.
I started 2014 at north of 105kg possibly as much as 110kg (I wasn't weighing myself much then). Like skull I wasn't feeling particularly good about myself then. During the year my wife and I started doing the 5:2 thing, following on from the lead of my parents and some friends of theirs. I was also trying to ride more and I signed on to Strava.
I started 2015 at about 93kg. By this time my dad was keeping a spreadsheet and we would report in on a weekly basis. We kept up the 5:2 discipline, and I resolved to ride to work on the marginal weather days when I would previously choose to not ride. I had a goal of 5200km for the year and exceeded that with for weeks to go. I did get to be 'normal' for a lot of the year, but December lifted me out of that. In that time I was feeling a lot happier, and my racing improved over the last couple of years as well from being in F grade on the road (E grade crits), to now being B grade on the road and A grade in crits.
My first Wednesday Weigh-In for this year gives me a start mark of 88.5kg.
Cheers,
Cameron

I find it keeps the goal(s) at front of mind daily. So I tend to assess changes more often and don't let negative things get away on me as much.ironhanglider wrote:I might start reporting in too. I think the public declaration helps to keep up the motivation.
WHtR is a more useful health indicator than BMI, especially at your height.ironhanglider wrote:I'm 187cm tall so I don't get to be 'normal' (according to BMI) until I get to 87.5kg.

I thought the article below was interesting because it has some guidelines to calculating your ideal body weight using not only height, but wrist measurement to determine general build size.
http://www.bicycling.com/food/reach-you ... ing-weight
Because my wrist measurement was only just into the medium build, I decided to split the difference between light and medium build (95%) and got 66.5 kg (BMI 22.2) as my ideal weight. Still too heavy IMO so maybe I'm a light build with thicker wrists.

Weigh in this morning:
64.9 kg or BMI 21.7 (0.9 kg gain)
WHtR 0.431 (same)

Um, this was wrong. I usually add 0.5kg a day after a ride as standard dehydration, but I weighed the same this morning. So I should stop adding.Nobody wrote: Weigh in this morning:

Today:
64.4 kg (0.4kg gain).

you made me have to dig out a tape measure...
I only looked at BMI so that I could say:
"I have reached normality, anything you are still not happy with is therefore your own problem."
My very rough waist measurement was 92, which puts my W/H at .492.
According to that website my ideal weight is 81kg. Looking at the flab I carry that should be achievable.
WWW for today - Still 88.5kg
Unfortunately the next couple of weeks will be on holiday in Tasmania with no riding. There is far too much good food and drink there...
Looks like I'll have some work to do when I get back.
Cheers,
Cameron

Well, at least it's under 0.5. Mine started at 0.52.ironhanglider wrote:My very rough waist measurement was 92, which puts my W/H at .492.
WC 74.5 or WHtR 0.431 this morning, which is becoming the norm (ranged between 0.425 and 0.434 last year).

Like weighing daily, there doesn't seem to be a strong short-term correlation to dietary variability. However the trend appears to be stable, rather than increasing. Weigh in tomorrow.

Yesterday I went for a ride so expected 0.5kg dehydration this morning. So 0.7kg gain for the year so far and 0.3kg gain in a week.

Was it a really late arvo/night ride or did you not drink enough during and after the ride?

0.7L while on ride. 0.5L after (1L after on warmer days). Normal food after that.
Went to work soon after for night shift and weighed myself on work's scales at 6am. So that is about 12.5 hours later. Maybe if it was a morning ride it would have been different. But unless it is going to be a hot day, it's usually in the afternoon.
