In summary, started this journey in July 2014 at 114kg when I got my bike. I started 2015 at 106kg after 1,500km. Despite another 1,800km under my belt I'm starting 2016 at the same weight. Worse yet, there's loss of muscle mass in that mix.
Goals for this year are 3,000km and 90kg, though I'll be happy with 95kg if that includes a year (well, 11 months now) of weight training.
Went for my maiden ride of the year just yesterday, and it was slow (though not as slow as I feared) and it hurt (mainly my seat). My son starts day care in 2 weeks and I'm trying to convince my wife to join me in the hope that she'll get bitten by the bug as well. We (now) both work from home so even if we could do one ride per week together it'd be awesome. Not that she needs to lose any weight (she's under 60kg and lighter than she was in her early 20's as it is) but not surprisingly she hasn't done much in the way of exercise since falling pregnant 20 months ago. I'm looking forward to sharing my newfound love of cycling with her though, and it will be fun to explore the city and also get off-road on a bike with her. Fortunately we have a friend of similar stature who owns a bike that is, let's just say, not often ridden. The plan is to borrow that for a few weeks and see how she likes it. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
I'll update my stats monthly.

Main strategies are staying away from the snack machines at work*, keeping the pantry stuffed with vegetables and legumes, freezing batches of creations made therefrom.
*Will confess to struggling a bit with this one

When I was heavier and riding for more than 2 hours, I could be over 1kg lighter after a single ride. That was after consuming two 700ml water bottles as well. So yes, I could be if I didn't start forcing the water down. My thirst response isn't the best. According to at least one study, this is more likely to happen as you get older.Aussiebullet wrote:What would happen if you rode every afternoon for 5 days would you be 2.5kgs lighter by the end?

Hydration takes preference over calories for me so I stick by the rule drink 1.5 X what ever weight I lost on the ride regardless of how much I drank during it, so long as I'm peeing clear in the 1 - 2hrs after and for the rest of the day I'm happy enough,my body has enough to do and recover from with out adding dehydration to the list.

There seems to be a pattern emerging of 74 to 74.5 for WC so I'm going to keep measuring, but not reporting for future reference unless outside of that range.
Weigh in tomorrow and the next day. I'm expecting not much change.

From yesterday I'd say probably just 0.3kg dehydration.

It seems that I am pretty poor with a tape measure. A couple of weeks ago I measured my circumference at 92cm, two days later the doctor measured it at 84cm.
Fortunately I can still read a digital scale.
Wenesday Weight 89.8kg = +1.3 for the year
Cheers,
Cameron

Maybe you were measuring it too low. It's supposed to be about an inch above your belly button. Maybe he pulled the tape too. Also you're supposed to do it first thing in the morning before other factors interfere. Mine can go up 2cm+ from first thing in the morning.ironhanglider wrote:It seems that I am pretty poor with a tape measure. I find it interesting that your doctor actually did the measurement to find WC. Most GPs are still living in the past and use only BMI.
If he is correct, that makes a WHtR of 0.449, which is pretty good already.
That isn't much considering. In loser mode you could probably lose it again in a week or so.ironhanglider wrote:Fortunately I can still read a digital scale.

Since you're calorie restricting, you are probably burning it.Baalzamon wrote:Today weight 102.69kg. Steadily dropping and consuming 2300 calories, 200g minimum fats. Where does my eaten fat gone to? Ketones body which brain loves. Extra fat goes out.

Is that meant to be "waist to height"? The numbers look like it.skull wrote:Now adding weight to height measurements.

WC 74.25, WHtR 0.429
Bought a new Soehnle digital personal scale. I need to take it to work to compare it to the one there. Neither will be conclusive since the one at work is higher range (300kg) so in theory less accurate at lower weight measurements, quite old and has never been calibrated since new. From what I've seen from other scales, I suspect the work one may display a bit too heavy.
From the FAQ of the Soehnle site, my one has 0.5% basic accuracy, or plus or minus 0.3kg. Which does work out to be approx +/- 0.5% at my weight. So like most scales, the heavier you are, the more accurate they get.
Soehnle wrote:Like any measuring instrument, scales can have tolerances. The tolerance is not more than 3 increments of the actual weight value. The smaller the increments, the lower the possible deviation. In other words, the accuracy variation, in the case of personal scales with a 100 g incremental display, is less than 0.5% in the average body weight range.

Yes, thanks for the correction. I'm not too bright but I can lift heavy things.Nobody wrote:Is that meant to be "waist to height"? The numbers look like it.skull wrote:Now adding weight to height measurements.

Yep, took my scale to work to find the work scale indicates 1.0kg heavier.Nobody wrote:Bought a new Soehnle digital personal scale. I need to take it to work to compare it to the one there. So everything I've said about weight on here I need to take a kg off.
63.4kg this morning or 0.4 gain for the year. BMI 21.2

So, at the moment I am interested in different numbers, if you like - kms, hours and minutes, etc.

99.2kg now, that is now a 5.7kg drop from the start of the year. I plateaued for 2 weeks and did a 36hr fast and then started to consume 2300 calories daily and I lost weight. Something doesn't add upBaalzamon wrote:Today weight 102.69kg. Steadily dropping and consuming 2300 calories, 200g minimum fats. Where does my eaten fat gone to? Ketones body which brain loves.
