Weight = 90.5kg - down 0.8kg since last week, down 2.5kg overall
WtHR = 94cm / 188cm = 0.5 = down .016 since last week, down 0.0213 overall
BMI - bah, not a great metric for a tall guy like me

Have felt improved performance on the bike (power output and endurance), in particular when climbing. And, the fiance made an offhand comment that I was looking better. So, tangible results starting to emerge. For me, food/calorie tracking (myfitnesspal) has been very helpful, particularly when making trade-offs on meal choices. I aim for about 130g of protein intake a day, supplementing with a protein shake on days where I'm not getting it naturally
Continuing to make progress, although a little slower:

Weight = 89.5kg - down 1kg since last week, down 3.5kg overall
WtHR = 93.5cm / 188cm = 0.497 = down .003 since last week, down 0.0216 overall

Was hoping for more waist reduction, but suspect the food and drinks on Australia day may have hindered that!

Today:
Waist 76 cm, WHtR 0.439
Up 1.25

Time for a significant change. So I've determined that a WHtR of 0.439 is too high and 0.416 is too low for me. Both determined by how I look in the mirror and how I feel on the bike. I'll aim for 0.425 this time and see how it goes. Should take a month or two to get back there.

That should be a BMI of around 21.0 or a bit less. Weight and BMI isn't a big driver for me since I'm mainly concerned by the amount of visceral fat I'm carrying. I'm fairly short (173cm), 49 yo and a light to medium build, so my BMI is going to be on the low side for my WHtR.

January check-in!

Started this journey mid-2014 at 114.5kg.

As of 2017:
Weight = 98kg, WtHR=0.59, BMI=30.93

January 31st:
Weight = 98.0kg (lightest was 96.6kg)
WtHR = 41.0*2.54/178 = 0.585 (consider action)
BMI = 30.93 (obese) (unchanged)

I'm actually not disappointed with the lack of progress over January with time away, birthday celebrations and very few opportunities to exercise (a paltry 106km on the bike, for example). More relieved that I managed to maintain my weight. However I'm raising my expectations for February, and would like to see a solid 2kg loss by the end of the month.

I should add that sleep hasn't been the best this month as the little one graduated from the cot and so sleep is sometimes interrupted, and morning are always earlier now. Weight training has been especially difficult since. As a result I have been compensating with caffeine-loaded soft drinks (back to bad habits) just to get me through the afternoon. However I put the brakes on that last week...

Today:
Waist 75 cm, WHtR 0.434
Down 1

61.9 kg, BMI 20.7
Down 0.7

Since I made the change - as suspected - I have lost 1 cm off the waist in 3 days. The more dramatic changes should dissipate now as I settle into chasing a WHtR of 0.425 over the next few months.

Thanks for having a go and posting WHtR. Looks like your WHtR is already pretty good. Still the lower the better (until the point you start to feel weaker).

Waist 75.5 cm, Up 0.5
WHtR 0.436

BMI 20.9

9th Feb:
Waist 75 cm, same
WHtR 0.434

62.1 kg, up 0.1
BMI 20.7
Well it appears I still have no problem gaining waist size. Looks like I'll have to adjust my diet a bit more to stabilize.

Physical activity not associated with weight loss over 2 year study period.
Discussion

From our study it is not evident that higher volumes of PA alone are protective against future weight gain, and by deduction our data suggest that other environmental factors such as the food environment may have a more critical role.

I only will weigh in certain days of the week when I haven't been riding recently. By doing so I try to keep the hydration consistent. At my BMI, my waist appears to change more than most. So I know if my waist hasn't moved, but weight has significantly, then it's most likely hydration.

History: 2011 i was down to <90 kgs, riding every day, climbing hard every 2nd day, and loving life. Peeps said i was starting to look gaunt though!
Since then i have struggled massively with work/life balance ( went back to study/ 3 young kids/ house renos....)
Now i barely fit into my cycling gear so have been riding my fixie or my SS MTB (in baggy clothes). Trouble is I can still ride.. banged out an imperial century in December with no prep and did SSWC MTB 'race' for 2 hours around wombat forest in late October.
But it's time to take action... New job/ career, kid's finally starting school.
i want to do something cycling related and extraordinary for my 50th in 2.5 years, so have started to watch intake and do daily weights session/HIT ( 3 days on, 1 off).
It's 39 degrees today , same tomorrow, so not worrying too much about cycling...
Checking in.
103.0 kgs this morning.
waist ~100 cms ( .53)
height properly measure at 188cms by missus.
Bmi= 28
things fitting better, belt buckle hole needed changing.
peeps noticing changes.
loving my 1 hour plus commute (60 km return with 800 m elevation).
still doing weights every 2nd day with a fair amount of yoga/ stretching.
diet is still pretty shocking...

Found this mortality graph through Wikipedia and thought it might help with motivation for those trying to lose weight/waist.

Don't get too hung up on BMI - it's useful only at a collective statistical level, not always at an individual level. Depending on how far you want to go, I would look into better measures for your health overall, including cholesterol levels, blood pressure, heart rate (resting, exercise, etc), specific measurements (e.g. waist, hips, etc), fat measures. You could have a high BMI, yet be healthy and fit.
