Finally had the latest iteration of my much loved Siren Twinzer out in front of a camera this morning, ready to ride.
For those unaware...steel hardtail with PMW sliding drop outs decked with RS SID XX WC fork and custom XLR8 wheels, carbon Niner, Answer and Ergon cockpit, Shimano 1x10 drive line.
Lovely plush thing, great for hours in the saddle. Especially now with the suspension fork - it used to be a carbon rigid fork but I was offered a great deal on the used slushie...and it suits it perfectly despite the extra weight.

Looking at that pic, and pic like it, when I see liek 8 feet of seat pole sticking out, makes me wonder about how they design stuff these days... don't get me wrong, my scott spark is exactly the same, riding don't notice it, even looking at it...but when I look at a picture of it i'm just holy moly that a lot of seat post. Hasn't broken off yet though.lone rider wrote:

Previous bike was a XC hardtail and less than half that amount of seat post exposure so my first reaction to this bike was the same and thought goddammit Ive got this thing all the way home and its not the right size, didnt do a real fit in store and bike shop owner didn't sound the clueyist in that regard so I didnt bother, a quick look at the geometry chart beforehand seemed all ok. When I did set up to my measurements and stood and back looked I had to take the seat post back out again to check there was enough left inside the frame. I reckon it adds more pro-look so has to be a positive.mikgit wrote:Looking at that pic, and pic like it, when I see liek 8 feet of seat pole sticking out, makes me wonder about how they design stuff these days... don't get me wrong, my scott spark is exactly the same, riding don't notice it, even looking at it...but when I look at a picture of it i'm just holy moly that a lot of seat post. I've found, trialling on a few occasions, that I actually ride worse with the post down than up, on bits of trail where the dropped post is supposed to help. I find that I lose a point of reference of where the bike is 'cos I can't use my thighs against the saddle to help steer it.

Didn't use it, didn't like it. Anything more than about an inch lower and it feels completely wrong, for 99% of my riding I don't need to lower it.theMISSIONARY wrote:did it have a fault? i cant see any reason(other than having weight weenie issues ) for taking one off

Yep that pretty much... when I used to race DH, way back when we road the same bike for XC and DH, I'd lower the seat, but only maybe an inch, anything glower and it felt completely wrong...same deal with a dropperDuck! wrote:Droppers don't work for everybody.

Problem is I'm not keen on the current Ritchey colours, Ricthey's should be red white and blue, so it's handy to have a friend who paints:

Took it for a shakedown run at Westliegh yesterday. Has some obvious limitations when compared to my dually over the rough stuff but it's an absolute blast through the twisty bits and accelerates so much faster. Loved it.
