Copenhagen Wheel turns any bike into an electric hybrid

Postby rodneycc » Wed Dec 04, 2013 3:14 pm

FYI, not for me but interesting......

Subject: Copenhagen Wheel turns any bike into an electric hybrid, ships early 2014 for $699 (video)

We can't fault you for dismissing the Copenhagen Wheel as vaporware -- it's been nearly four years since the pedal-assist bicycle accessory made its debut at the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference. But, we finally have pricing and availability to ...

I heard that it's having another shot at commercialisation. Biggest problem for Oz is that both the US and EU specs are for a motor greater than 200W...so it'd be illegal.

The other giggle is its mooted top speed of 25 km/h...slower than my average commute speed. Same issue as any other e-bike...which I struggle to get my head aound
Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle

Australia has mostly adopted 250 watts and 25 kph is standard - that means that this is likely not targeted at you unless you need assist up hills and to get up to cruising speed.

looks like the competition is heating up, the copenhagen wheel will be coming out about the same time as flykly: http://www.flykly.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The flykly is significantly cheaper. It looks like they have near identical specs, except the flykly is a single gear, while copenhagen wheel you can get with rear gears attached.

Copenhagen has already started offering $100 off, but is still way more expense than flykly - which also comes with front light and phone cradle.

Hopefully the price wars continue. I think these all-in-one units could prove to be a huge game changer for cycling, especially if the prices come down to $300-$400.

Looks interesting. I don't really need it because I will get less exercise, but I would like a new toy.

Maybe I will get one when I turn 60.

If they do ship, it will be awesome. However, they promise a lot but they haven't shipped.

Also questions about servicing, spare parts.

Maybe we are getting closer to seeing these things actually released...

In september Flykly said they would begin shipping in oct. through to 2015, and claim to have been manufacturing since may.

Copenhagen wheel are now saying they will ship 'before the end of the year'.

Of course both promises are pretty meaningless since both have missed dead lines by an absolute mile.

Flykly does seem to actually probably going to ship shortly. They have done a lot of demo days so thousands of people have at least actually tried them. Unfortunately flykly has been downgraded alot since its first kickstarter, the final one looks to be 6ahour 36v, which means 15 to 30km range depending on power output.
