I am not in total agreement with the obvious and somewhat heavy handed emphasis on separated infrastructure. I take the view that roads are made for road vehicles, bicycles are road vehicles, therefore roads which are not safe for bicycles are inadequate and remedies are essential. I'm not against separated cycling infrastructure but so much of it is bad and/or dangerous it is counter-productive, at least what I see in Melbourne.
They seem to have missed an obvious point in this one: http://cyclingfallacies.com/en/37/nobod ... ve-instead I often choose to walk or cycle because it is so damned hard to park.
The shopkeepers whinging about closing off the street near their shop does seem to be a common argument, see http://cyclingfallacies.com/en/3/shopke ... le-driving They really need to get a grip, how often do people avoid certain areas because of traffic congestion or difficulty parking? This is one reason why people flock to shopping centres (although the paddocks of parking are getting so big the parking advantage is lessened) and street shopping centres suffer. I think of Acland St in StKilda in Melbourne, you would have to be bonkers to drive there and the street is so much less appealing with cars driving up and down.

Catering for a somewhat large number of people too so lots of stock moving. Come on, there are solutions, just takes some thought.
