Working around middle Bayside atm, and from a cyclist's POV it's a pleasure. Bayside's done a lot of cycle lane work, and it's working. Not only quite a few cyclists, but today I was near a (high end) school that had the absolute highest amount of cyclist students I've seen in the last 5 years, bar none. Mostly using the bike lanes, a few on shared path, a few on footpath. The Nepean Hwy didn't seem to be a barrier..... saw heaps using the shared path alongside; nor the soccer mums in their Brighton buses. Boys, girls, primary and secondary school. Make a safer way to use the road, and they'll come.
Saw a young bloke using one of those big front wheel scooters keeping up with his mates. What blew me out was his magic legs....double amputee (I assume) with some fancy s/s or something legs, keeping pace no troubles. I haven't felt like whinging all day.....good on him.
