I think he's dealing with an intestinal issue, possibly caused by the bike lane..P!N20 wrote:^ Where's my skateboard? Also, is that dude riding no handed?

They have been documenting special infrastructure since 2001.
Some of the examples are Australian too, including November 2018.
Cheers,

This one makes me chuckle:
This month's facility was inspired by an undergraduate philosophy assignment; a sign that’s only purpose is to warn of its own existence.
I really need to submit a few local examples.

Locally a pole is in the middle (not exactly middle, but you get the gist) of some newly constructed road. Seems the power co is just very slow to jump on board and it will be moved soon.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-10-29/ ... s/11650004
I’ve also seen similar before. Power co took about 18months to get the pole moved off the road. Council needed to maintain barriers for all that time.

read that story and some pics showed the area around the pole blocked off with those large sort of solid plastic barriers to build the kerb back out....looks like they were removed by (local) unknowns to create an internet worthy bit of "news"bychosis wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 10:15 pmLocally a pole is in the middle (not exactly middle, but you get the gist) of some newly constructed road. Nope, the council did the roadworks and it was some time later that they came back and put barriers up.antigee wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 10:24 amread that story and some pics showed the area around the pole blocked off with those large sort of solid plastic barriers to build the kerb back out....looks like they were removed by (local) unknowns to create an internet worthy bit of "news"bychosis wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2019 10:15 pmLocally a pole is in the middle (not exactly middle, but you get the gist) of some newly constructed road. this article in TheGuardian would suggest that its not an industrial dispute but a company to pause on live work whilst reviewing work methods...Ausgrid's website/press releases seem to confirm this (1xgoogle)mikesbytes wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 12:40 pmI've heard that there is a industrial dispute that centres around the death of a lines worker and this is slowing the work of moving poles. Anyone know if this is correct?
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-n ... tle-street
and I'd still contend "vandals" removing the barriers made a good pic for the internet (from the same article )
"ABC Newcastle
28 October at 07:32 ·
POWER POLE SPARKS ROAD SAFETY CONCERNS
Concerns have been raised about a power pole at Wickham that now currently sits several feet from the kerb after roadworks.
Newcastle Council says safety barriers, signs and lighting surrounded the power pole but someone vandalised the construction site over the weekend .
Council says it's put the barriers back in place........"

Agreed, workers should not be expect to work on live power lines; especially when there is a simple alternative.
I remember getting letters saying something like, "To the resident. This is to notify you that power will be disconnected from your house on date X". Now I think of it, I haven't seen one for a while. Do they just not do that anymore?

BTW the moving of fibre optic cables could be a more lengthy process as if you need a bit more length, or less length, you can't simply cut the wires, the current process is to replace the entire cable between joiners/repeaters or whatever they call them

Which is both factually and conceptually false (as any fule kno). I await the next injured party, one whose lawyer who can spell "negligence".Jobsworth the bureaucrat wrote:“The light pole has been there for many years. The pole is essential infrastructure and cannot be moved,”

If he'd driven a car instead he wouldn't have been injured. (from the typical commenters), oh, and if he paid rego, he'd get better infrastructure, and what about the poor light pole? Did anyone think of its wellbeing? And finally, did they charge the injured rider for riding furiously?Thoglette wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 10:23 pmWhich is both factually and conceptually false (as any fule kno). Next improvement: "Cyclists must dismount" sign will appear soon (blocking three quarters of the path).

Then add a slippery steel plate & idiots pulling out from the servo without giving way & it is just a joy to behold
.
& the "new" infrastructure is more of the same
& people wonder why I ride downhill on the road surface.
