Giant 2016 models

Postby jtrappett » Wed Apr 29, 2015 1:58 pm

Just wondering when the 2016 models will be on the website and for sale? Someone mentioned to me it should be soon, but nothing more definite than that.

Cheers.

From memory Giant launched it s 2015 range at the end of July 2014. So the timing might be similar for the 2016 range except for the new TCR which is likely to be launched a little earlier prior to the start of the Tour de France.

Some "recreational" models start sneaking through around June/July, but the main "Performance" launch is late July or early August.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Just a personal comment - I feel that if you are talking about the 2016 release date at the end of April 2015, then you need to back away from your current approach to buying stuff.
This makes me want to stop buying Giant.

Giant Australia themselves are probably still discussing details with the factory, so may not have an exact launch date yet. I've worked in a shop that is a Giant dealer for close to 11 years, and the launch has always been sometime in the first three weeks of August, sometimes right in the last couple of days of July, although as I said previously, some of the lower-spec "recreational" models will start sneaking in a little bit sooner. Typically these will be kids' bikes, hybrids, budget MTBs, Cross Cities & the alloy Defies.

They're probably also under instructions from Taiwan to keep a lid on things until certain dates that HO has in mind to release details of things globally.

We are due for a new TCR this time around aren't we Duck! ? Surely the 1st we will see them is at Le Tour so late July makes sense, it will be interesting to see what they have coming with it

This would all but confirm the new TCR will be out in July, well with Giant Alpecin anyway....

Yes, there is a new TCR this year. What the details of it are at this point are still unknown.

And while it's highly probable that it will be ridden in the Tour this year, that's no guarantee that Giant will push the launch to market ahead of their usual timing.

Anyone know if they are sticking with quick release on their disc brakes or are they moving to through axle?

Given that the disc-braked road bikes were only brought in last year, and they work on a (typically) three-year production run, I doubt it.

36" - 700mm BSD rims with fat bike tyres.

Just the thing for riding round the yard.

The silver one looks good.

I'd better see about getting a fork for my old TCR SL3 frame, I want to get it going again as well.

The 'new' Giant TCR has also appeared at the Tour of California this week:

Looks alright - be interested to see where it improves on the current ones and by how much. Especially if it is lighter. My SL1 is just under 7.0kg without any weight saving efforts.

I like the colour. Looks good with the skin wall tyres.

So looking at that photo am I right in saying they have put the top tube back to a more normal position rather than the ergo type frame that it used to be?

Are you suggesting the top tube slope has changed? That doesn't appear to be so.

The frame looks fairly evolutionary; probably lighter and perhaps even a little less rigid than the outgoing frame, improving all-day comfort wile still in a more racy package than the Defy.

At the '15 model launch last year, when queried about the TCR not being updated along with the other models, the rep suggested, while not giving any details away, that with the Propel staking its place as the super-stiff powerbrute, this new TCR would be refocused as more of a "climbers' bike".
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Which is what many have been saying since 2013 in the tcr vs propel trade offs. Propel trumps tcr on the flat while the tcr trumps the propel in the hills.

Certainly explains why the Propel brakes are carp!
