The Giant Australia site is displaying the new range if anyone is interested.

The incredible shrinking road bikes... Seems as the population gets taller the geo's get smaller. The Tech highlights of he New TCRs sound nice but its still spot the difference in appearance to me (rounder seat tube maybe the only obvious diff). Looks to me a larger change last year with the Defy than this year with the TCR.

Personally like the 2016 Defy Advanced SL 0 the best I think. Edit: Or a Propel Advanced SL Team Alpecin (that one looks nice!)

Taking a quick look at the XTC Advanced 29er 1, looks like a new paint job and a downgrading of the Shimano SLX parts to XT parts.

One of the media releases a few weeks ago (Cycling Tips Blog maybe, not 100% sure) had an overlay of new vs old geometry, which really showed the slimmer tube profiles of the new frame. With the Propel firmly ensconced as Giant's uncompromising performance rig, the TCR has been tweaked to be more of an all-rounder with race geometry. As such it is very much an evolutionary rather than revolutionary redesign. The previous Defy did cop a bit of stick for being a comfort-oriented bike that was not as forgiving as it could have been, largely thanks to the aero post, hence the fairly major redesign on that front.

On the MTB front, the only new things are a carbon Glory downhill bike, and a subtle frame tweak on the Anthem 29er, to beef up the infamously fragile seat tube/top tube junction. There is a very tasty XTC Advanced SL with XTR Di2 and Fox's electronically-operated fork lockout. 8)
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

XT is an upgrade from SLX.

Not that I know, but that's not what I take away from this forum post.

EDIT: On further inspection, it seems there's little difference except perhaps weight, and opinion seems divided on which is superior.

Most of the posts in that linked thread are badly outdated, even for the dates of posting. XT is most definitely a step up from SLX; although some parts are shared with minor tweaks between the two, in other area there are significant upgrades from SLX to XT, particularly in materials used. XT this year has also undergone a complete update, following from XTR (the top groupset) last year, so it's a greater upgrade than usual over SLX, until it gets its turn for updating next year.

I shall defer to your obviously superior knowledge and hereby stand corrected! So we're left with a new paint job and new forks.

Interesting that the Defy Advanced Pro 0 has Dura Ace and no Di2, and the Pro 1 has Ultegra and Di2.

A bit of jiggling with equipment downspeccing it seems. The Tcx SLR1 from 2015 now has a carbon frame as Adv Pro2 (as such loosing the rack and fender ability) and downgrades the brakes and brifters to hit the price point. The old ally SLR2 has gone up in price while not increasing specpotatos, some have gone down too.

I really don't think Q/R vs through-axle is that big a deal; I've got MTBs fitted with both & can't detect a difference in stiffness.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

The 2016 TCX SLR1 has an Alloy frame not carbon and still has rack mounts, the main difference I can see is paint job, mechanical instead of hydro disc brakes and swaps crankset to Shimano from FSA

Maybe I didn't explain or you read it right but that's what I said. There were two models in ally, now one with lower spec. The prev top ally (price point) is now carbon but again lowered spec.

Seen how our dollar is performing against other currencies recently? Price point comparison is not particularly relevant against previous years.

Oh I know but ref for vs model/spec/price. It's only bad news now for lower spec and higher prices. Buy run out models is the best bet currently!

Thanks to Carrots for digging the image out. :-). The black is the new frame, the red marks the old one.
