Giant SLR 1 Disc WheelSystem weights?

Postby jerrah » Sat Sep 19, 2015 4:02 pm

I've noticed the new Defy Advanced Pro 0 has lost Di2 but gained Dura-ace and now has carbon fibre rims?

Does anybody know the weight difference of the new "Giant SLR 1 Disc WheelSystem" vs the previous alloy rims? I don't imagine it would be easy or cheap to buy the wheelset without a bike attached.

The "heavy" wheels are the worst aspect to the otherwise fantastic bike.

1615 grams. Interesting that's more than Giant was claiming for the 30mm deep carbon wheelset that came on the 2015 Advanced SL models. They used to list the wheelset weight in the features section for the 2015 models but no longer do so, probably because the claimed 1525 grams (if my memory serves me correctly) was too low.

The previous 30mm alloy rims were listed at 1750 grams.

The 2015 alloy rims being here: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/gea ... 984/71065/ 1750g.

100g saving over a wheelset doesn't seem ground breaking. Although I do remember the alloy wheelset reportedly weighing in around the 1850g mark.

At that weight a 1525g wheelset would start seeming worthwhile.

The wheels will be available from a giant dealer. Reasonable pricing also, the wheelset that weighs around 1520g is the pslr0 disc. It has a better hub construction and lighter spokes.
