TCX tyre choice....

Postby Hastingd » Sun Feb 12, 2017 8:48 pm

Evening all,
I got myself an SLR2 late last year and am ready to change the tyres. Most of my mileage is on road, with about 30% on packed gravel, so I don't think I need the grip that the standard tyres provide.
So, if you have changed to something less chunky, what did you choose, and how have they travelled?
Thanks,
Darren.

Victoria Rubino Pro II in 28mm, pannier commute on them, taken over cobbles in Europe on them (don't recommend it :-p ), hard packed tracks, all weather, 12000km out of a front, 6000km is when I change the rear, though that can be extended I just do a 2 to one ratio usually. Fantastic for $30ea from your favourite overseas onliner. Looks like they've been updated to a cheaper III or fancier Pro G+ or G+ version now.

Continental CX Speed - 35mm - do the job well for my CX rig. It rolls quick enough on bitumen to keep up on 33-35Kph average bunchies, as well as having fantastic grip on hard-packed gravel and do very well on looser gravel surfaces, ie dirt / forestry roads.

I cannot fault them.
