BNA Server Down - Connection Issues

Postby AUbicycles » Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:25 pm

With a planned server update on Saturday Morning from 1am to 1:30am there will probably be downtime. During this time I recommend not posting.

A complete backup will be made an hour prior to the upgrade.
The site and forum will be monitored after the upgrade to ensure everythig is running smoothly.

Edited: changed original thread name due to persisting server problems
Planned Downtime - Saturday 28.02.2009 1:00am - 1:30am

Since the upgrade there have been lots of reports of connection issues - read further…

The update has been complete. Thank you for you patience.

I get the feeling that everything is running much faster. Anyone else agree or disagree.

It seems to have gone back to frequent load time errors. I've been getting a lot of these since the update the other night.

Cheers,
Graeme

No, just a failure to connect error. If nobody else is reporting it, it might be at my end ...

I also encountered a number of intermittent time-outs this morning. Seemed to be back to normal now.

A few instances yesterday and today for me too, where the page declined to load.

One where I clicked the preview button on a post, which then failed to load with the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' message. Using the back button meant the post was lost... :(

Well, the problem is persisting. Intermittent failure of page loading.

G'day

I was experiencing the same issues yesterday and Saturday. Only been on a short time today so not sure if the problem has been resolved or not.

It would be great if you can let me know what error messages are being displayed - if it is inside the browser, copy paste - if it is a popup, let me know that and include the error message.

Feel free to also email me info@bicycles.net.au

The more exact the information I have, the better I can follow this up with the host and track down the problem. Thanks for your patience.

Hi,
I am doing a bit of research and looking into this with my programmers.
When these errors occur - are you then logged out of the site and have to log in again? For us it would suggest that there is a problem with the sessions.

Cheers

Can't remember if I've had these errors, but I may have just tuned them out as due to my connection. However, don't know if it's realted to this, my computer's on 24/7 and signed in the BNA, but sometimes I get back, refresh BNA, and I'm not logged in?

Don't think I am being logged out...have been active when the situation occurs.

In IE7, I don't have 'Show friendly error messages' turned on, but there is still no uselful error information provided.

The site just seems very slow at times tonight. The statusbar message says 'Waiting for...' and then after a while 'Website found' and then the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' page.

Just seems like the server is unavailable at times...then it comes good and is functioning as usual.

Is the BNA domain getting it's fair share of server resources?...or is the server rebooting often?

Every now and then down this way too. Usually useless for 3 odd minutes at a time. Refresh doesn't help, only the back button or from the history pane. I stay logged in.

Yeah happening to me too. 2 different things happened, once I got connection refused, the other time the connection timed out. Could be a number of things, but I'd check your apache logs first, make sure you're not hitting the MaxClient limit or something like that.

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."

Other options to try:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.
