Are you images in your Dropbox public folder? They need to be it seems. Another possible fix is to replace "www" with "dl" in the URI.

This is the image in my public folder and I have used the Dropbox "Public Link". It actually replaces the www with dl anyway.

In my recent post, viewtopic.php?f=34&t=81428" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I created a thread in Tapatalk and uploaded a image through the Tapatalk link.

When I view the thread via Tapatalk, the picture is embedded into post.
When I view the thread via a web browser on the PC, no image appears. Any ideas on what is causing this?

I can see the image on the desktop site (Firefox) - if you're on a work network, overzealous IT security might be to blame ;)

Image file sizes that are being uploaded on various topics lately are just too large.

The unfortunate situation for me personally is that my only way to view this site is via my iPad, and on the iPad any page of a string that has an over side image on it becomes extremely difficult to view as the format of the messages themselves becomes unbelievable tiny.

Is there any way that the BNA site can be set so that it automatically reduces file size, or at the very least provides a message to the poster that the file being uploaded is too large?

Cheers,
Tom

Yes - this is still on my to do list.

Obviously it is poor etiquette when members include overlarge images. And technically if they are reduced, everyone is loading (e.g.) a 1MB image when it should be a 70kb image.

However it is something to do - (I tend to get stuck doing all of the techy basic maintenance type things which take away from these type of improvements. So do remind me.

Does anyone know of an Australian bike forum site that enables you to upload directly from my photos on my computer? In short, like you can do on Ebay? Thanks, from an old timer computer ignoramus.

If you set up an account with a free photo hosting service such as photobucket (potentially flickr) then you can connect the images.

Unfortunately this site does not host images as sometimes images are not actually owned which created copyright issues.

Another quick and easy to use host is imgur.com

been using them for about a year now and its imo cleaner and hold quality better than the bucket.

Good point, and photobucket have (what I call) unethical advertising injections and popups.

agree, they used to be good, now just an advert mess, just like imageshack did, seems that all image hosts go this way after a while, start out as clean, easy to use and no mess, then a few small adds then boom, we need more $ so lets flood the site with adverts and forced video watching.

I would like to modify this "How to Post images" - edit the first post and include recommendations for image services.

Photobucket has really gone downhill, you could probably call it spambucket with the amount of ads (some very questionable).
What good, honest and easy to use photo services are out there which members can recommend?

(background for new members, it is best not to host images on BNA, not only from bandwidth, rather copyright as some people may chose to upload images they do now have permission to use, so hosting images elsewhere and taking BNA out of the loop is best).

I usually just take a photo and then upload it through tapatalk or the other thing I sometimes use is dropbox because it comes standard on android phones.

Edit: what would be nice is something that converts plain text files, pdfs or ms-word files straight into xml or html or some displayable content from dropbox photobucket etc
(Eg instead of having to download it).

I guess I could try converting it first and then uploading it to dropbox (I haven't really played with it much) but was thinking would be nice if it did it all automagically.

Any reason why I can't link from a 'sharable link' to one of my photos in Google+? I notice it gives a 'https' link... would be a waste of electrons if I had to copy the image to another site.

The [ img ] tag only works with a direct URL to the image - the URL above points to the page the image is embedded on :)

If you right-click the image and choose "view image" (firefox) or "show picture" (internet explorer), then copy the URL you should be right:

Code: Select all

Awesome - thanks! Though it's a bit small, not the true image size...

DOH... m@ beat me to it...

This link just takes me to the page with the image - so wont work.

The trick is to first click on the image to get the large version. On the image right click (PC)... or if you are awesome and use a mac, it is 'control click' on the image. From the list that appears you need to "Copy Image URL". When you past it in here it will look like this.

Code: Select all

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PKIxeJb70VBc9IcW5Jp5yAfUUi4qFy9yg6sFoe7tn1A=w552-h980-no
Notice, it doesn't have the classic .jpg (or .gif or .png or .svg) ending. But that doesn't matter. Then just wrap it with the image tag

Code: Select all

[img]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PKIxeJb70VBc9IcW5Jp5yAfUUi4qFy9yg6sFoe7tn1A=w552-h980-no[/img]
And presto... something like this comes up!

Just to keep it rolling... you can be sneaky and use the thumbnail as a link to the full-size image - that way people on slow connections or low download limits don't download the full image unless they choose to:

Code: Select all

[url=https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PKIxeJb70VBc9IcW5Jp5yAfUUi4qFy9yg6sFoe7tn1A=w552-h980-no][img]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PKIxeJb70VBc9IcW5Jp5yAfUUi4qFy9yg6sFoe7tn1A=w180-h320-no[/img]Click for full-size =)[/url]

Hello.

Am I able to post images from a photo hosting site that has NO hot-linking?
Was going to use this one- https://pixabay.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but specifies in FAQ: NO hot-linking.

Thank you for any info/advice.
C.

I don't think pixabay is a genuine image hosting site. It seems to be a site which may pretend to be a hosting site or source for free images, but actually exists to promote paid stock images such as shutterstock. For this reason I would avoid. I would also recommend following information on hotlinking because the sites will generally then block image embedding - so best to use a different service.
