BNA Site Upgrade & Update

Postby AUbicycles » Tue Jun 07, 2016 12:14 am

Members and Guests,
BNA has now moved to a new host and if all goes to plan, the only difference should be that the website is faster.

During the transition period (June 8) access to bicycles.net.au may be affected - if you are seeing this message and can log in, then you have reached the new site.

If you would like to know more or would like to report any issues, please do so here:Issues & Reports

Sorry for the long delay in getting the forums back up - I was awaiting the transfer of the domain records - and it seems that the host (as they sometimes do) automatically grab the previous records... and so over-wrote the settings which should have mean that it would work immediately.

I never really had issues with the older host but this one at this stage does appear to be a little more snappy.

I liked the announcement thanking me for my patience - I wasn't being patient, but when the forum is down, no-one can hear you scream :)

I had the short maintenance messages on this forum.

Certainly understand the sentiment against facebook, they manipulate the content so our facebook page hasn't been getting true reach for years... i.e. Facebook wants individuals and businesses to pay so that followers see posts.

Is anyone else getting this error message when they try to log in?

I had to try to log in about 10 times tonight before it finally let me in. Had the same behavior in Firefox and Chromium.

For future upgrades/maintainence I'd suggest posting a link to the Facebook page on the holding page. This will both alert folks firstly to the fact there is a page and secondly that you will be posting updates.

The relationship between Facebook pages and peoples news feeds is based around engagement not just pay per view. Posting a link that people then follow and interact is a simple SEO way of gaining engagement for the page which will then raise its profile in users news feeds.

Thanks - would love to have this possibility though the forum software provided very limited options to nicely inform or include links. I was 'fighting' bigger issues.

I also manually logged everyone out (once) and cleared the cache after making some database changes which I hoped solved the login issues.

There has also been an outtage between 12:50 and 13:40 - defined as a "out of memory" -something went haywire.

The outtage is known and I did log everyone off as part of the 'attempt' to restore access.

Sorry I couldn't react sooner - only started getting email access today (and still trying to get it working properly, hence have not been able to respond).

For the forum Search - I am aware of this and will aim to restore that later (when there is less traffic).

But is the access now working properly? (is. account sna no more SQL errors).
