I'm converting my everyday bike to 8sp campy after picking up some 1st gen Record Ergopower shifters and a decent rear hub. I need derailleurs now, and am wondering if I need a specific 8sp ergo compatible front derailleur or whether I can use any of the old campag FDs, or indeed any FD; they're ratcheted right?

I think any FD that can fit an 8sp chain through will do the trick. The rachetting is all done in the ergolever, not the derailleur.
For the rear it's more important to get an 8sp campag as the throw per click has to be right.

That's what I was thinking.
Thanks for that.
