2014 R5

Postby fat and old » Thu Apr 23, 2015 6:23 am

Asked in general, but maybe the Cervelo boys hang out down here

Looking at a 2014 R5, Di2, Racing 0 nites, etc. Any feedback on these....known issues, comfort....I'm 84kg going down. Weight an issue?

2014 R5

Very good rig... I've just purchased a 2015 R5, and its a very nice ride - I don't think there's any significant changes from '14 to '15... The tall headtube is a bit annoying for me, but if u don't have an aggressive position it works well for most... Climbs and descends very well...

Pick up hopefully tomorrow. I'll try to work out how. You can forget about -17 deg stems, Enves and big chain rings though  52/36 is enough for me :D

gotta get that crappy bar tape replaced, and wait till I sell the present bike to buy the new wheels :D Fulcrum 3's a standard, better than me anyway.

I like Di2 :D

Happy end to the week. Thanks blokes.

Why the issue with the tall steerer? Looking to me you have too much drop. More the a pro cyclist would run.

The drop is significant but it's exaggerated a little by the camera angle... At the end of the day less drop means less comfort for me, as I comfortably ride with a low flat back... Lifting the front end results in spinal flexion, which for me is uncomfortable. So the silly looking -17 deg stem being slammed isn't about wanting to be wnaker cool, just being comfortable for longer, 200km+ rides...

The tall headtube means to get enough drop to be comfortable I, 1) have to use a stupid looking -17 deg stem instead of a traditional -6, and 2) have to use deep drop bars like the Tornova pictured, instead of my favoured, shallower, ergonovas... Annoying [emoji15]

First whine!!

Stupid brake cable running along the head tube has graunched the paint. Rotten beautiful matte paint that marks up easy :(

To even things out.....I got a KOM yesterday!!! A real one, not a 2015 one. First ever! And I didn't even make the segment up!!!!

I like this bike 8) It's a keeper.

If your brake cable is gouging the paint it must be a bit short? Post up pics of where etc...

Yikes!!!!!!
The best frame protection is helicopter tape... I use it for my chainstay, and seat tube where the back brake housing crosses it...

Heaps of different lengths and widths on egay..,

Pretty wild aye, :( Got some frame protector things as soon as I saw it, but the marks are there.....actually it pains me to say it but the gouges are there.

If I wanted to be a pedant, would this be a warranty claim?

On another tack.... I got another KOM! :D Not a biggie, but it's mine 8)

No.

Dr M, what size is your rig please? Trying to work out if I'll need a 120 or 130mm -17 for a S2 I'm planning on getting.

Update.

The creaking BB is driving me nuts!

Otherwise a fine, reliable steed that is providing many hours of enjoyment. App. 9,500 k's to date, give or take.

It's even started climbing
