I bought an S2 recently and would welcome other users' feedback and pics on either the S2 or S3, as they share the same frame.

Mine is a massive upgrade to the previous aluminium bike I owned, and I am loving every ride.

So the S2 is the same as an S3, just comes with Ultegra instead?

The S2 and the S3 have identical frames except for the colour scheme and the forks. The forks on the S3 were designed to be a little more aerodynamic, but after testing they found that they were pretty much identical, as far as aerodynamics goes. I have read that the S3 forks may be a little lighter/stiffer, but I have not tested an S3 to properly compare.

The other differences are the groupset as you mentioned, wheels etc., wheels, saddle, tyres etc.

Yes, it's definitely a nice bike to look at as well as to ride. It just asks to be ridden

I went for a 125km ride on the weekend through the hills and on the flat, and could easily have gone more. It is a pretty good bike to ride for longer distances, better than my original aluminium "endurance" geo bike! As a matter of interest, Conti 25mm 4000SII tyres fit fine, and my commute wheels have a Conti 4 Seasons 28mm on the back which measures almost identical in dimensions to the 25mm 4000SII. The 25mm 4000SIIs I have on the Hadrons at the moment (23mm rims) measure 27.7mm front and 28mm rear. I would not put larger tyres on as currently there is no more than 3mm clearance at the closest point.

What are your thoughts on 105 5800?

This is the second set of 5800 I've had and when set up correctly I often wonder what benefit there would be going to electronic. It's that good. Braking is excellent, gear changes are easy, quick and crisp. I guess Di2 would not change with time due to cable stretch etc. Ultegra/DA would be lighter, but the 5800 is a no brainer if budget is a consideration.

I ordered an S3 back in April (Ultegra Di2), but sadly they didn't have my size and were out of stock until late July.
I sprung the extra $400 and went up to the S5 Ultegra Mech instead of waiting.
Gorgeous bikes. The S3 and S5 have almost become our club team bike as quite a few have them now.

Nice bike! Have you by any chance had the opportunity to compare the S3 to the S5, particularly in regard to ride comfort over longer distances?

Sadly I only have an S5. I was hoping to win the S3 Frameset at the Cervelo Masters, but I wasn't that lucky.
The S3 has a longer head tube so it is, in theory, more comfortable on longer rides.
Having said that, I have done a number of long rides (195km & 205km in the last few weeks) on the S5 with no ill effects. The only modification I have made is to swap the stock saddle for one more suitable for my rear end!
Some riders don't like the Cervelo Aero Bars, but I like the wide flat tops. The S3 comes with the 3T Ergonova Pro bars, which is what I have on my other two bikes.

I had both;

S2 (carbon soloist) and S5 VWD

I sold the S2 to buy a different bike. But I shoundn't have. The S2 for me was slightly more comfortable, it was a smaller frame 51cm whilst the S5 is 54cm (I am 185cm), the Sram red on the S5 I feel is far better than the mech ultegra older model, but that is down to personal choice. Both very nice stiff bikes. The S5 feels a little stiffer and turns in much quicker than the S2.

Is there much toe overlap at 51cm?

I guess it's hardly a super-lightweight climber style bike anyway, so why bother with the upgrade the small amount of weight for the cost anyway? If i get a TT bike I think it will probably be 105 5800 for the same reason

Yes, not ultra light. I can still lose a fair bit personally anyway The bike minus pedals is 7.7kg.

So that's where the logical upgrades would potentially be when things wore out... Keep an eye out for a cheap DA 9000 front mech!

I am 185cm on a 56cm S5. The 54 was way too small for me.

Yes, with the Hadron 485s, which weigh in at 1670g excl. tyres, tubes, skewers.

Both bikes have problems at low speed, your toes hit the front wheels, but you get use to it.

As for fit the S2 I bought off a guy the same height, although it sounds small, it was very comfy. More relaxed to ride than the S5. My S5 has the handlebars slammed and feels similar but not quite as agressive as the S2 to hop on, but the S5 is sharper to respond once riding. The bikes handle quite differently.

Picked my nice new shiny Red S3 56cm on Saturday. Receiced a new cassette from wiggle last night.

Now to put the Hardon 625s on it one night soon

Weighed in at 7.9kg with pedals and garmin sensors

Quick test on Sunday, i thought i felt the seat post slip so back to shop tonght for them to adjust (i don't want to damage it yet)

Santa delivered a week early for me.

58cm 8.25kg exactly as purchased ie no bottle cages or pedals. Maiden voyage tomorrow!

I'm looking at the exact same bike so it was nice to get an accurate weight on the s2!

Will be under 8kg with my wheels and a saddle change .. Did yours come with compact cranks or standards?
