Dropped off hubs and rims at Craftworx yesterday. They're being built into wheels using DT Champion spokes. I'll post a photo after I pick them up next Saturday.

While not exactly cheap this was the cheapest X9 36-22 I could find when I was looking. They have other crank lengths to.

Hehe - Thanks for the thought, but as posted quite a ways back, I'm waiting for the new SRAM GX 2x10 group to come into stock. My order is in at Bike24.
The price of that X9 crank alone would burn around one third of my budget for the entire drivetrain including Apex shifters.

Fair enough.

Good work if you can build the drivetrain for $600

Looks like a very nice build going on there - what do you plan on powering with the Dynamo? Lights? Devices?

Both probably. Definitely devices, but will also lights if I can devise suitable mountings - the Firestarter carbon forks don't have the usual crown mounting holes so I'll have to find another way.

Got a call to say the wheels are done, but Steve is going away for the long weekend, so I won't be able to collect them for another week. Bugger, I'm keen to see how they built up...

I feel your pain.
I'd be tormented but that particular outcome so I say raise a glass or three to Craftys health and bury your thoughts into something more close to hand if possible.
If you've not got your drive train (crankset/shifters etc) yet, your wheels weren't taking you anywhere.

You could yet wind Crafty up by not picking them up and paying until more of your gear arrives.....
Share the pain where its due 8)

Nice stuff Ron. What width Supremes did you buy?

I switched back to my 2" Duremes and liked them on both country/highway rides as well as back home even after using slick city tyres around town. I'm currently a fan of 2" tyres.

I've been thinking some 2" Panaracer ribmo's or Vittoria's might be worth a try. I have some 1.5" Supremes which will go on the lady bosses bike if she ever wears out the Marathons while commuting but the Supreme price puts me off at the moment.

I used the 2.0" Duremes in NZ this year, but they are not made anymore. Schwalbe has a Dureme Tandem but I think it's not the same tyre.
The Supremes are 1.6" - 42mm, only for use around town. They don't have enough edge grip to feel confident on gravel roads.
I'm tossing up between Clement Xplor MSO 40mm, Soma Cazadero 42mm and Stan's Crow or Raven 2.0 for when I go touring.

What size TRP did you get and where from? Bike24 could only supply one set of 180 mm to me.

They have 160mm rotors, and came from Bike24. I could not find them anywhere with 180mm rotors.

According to the TRP website they are only offered with 140mm or 160mm rotors, however the 160mm version includes both L2 and L3 (160R/180F) IS to PM adapters.

I'm happy to try them with 160mm rotors, if I'm not satisfied with them a pair of 180mm rotors will not cost much.

However if you will be using flat bars and MTB levers, Spyres are the wrong brakes. You need Spykes, which are offered with 180mm rotors. Bike24 don't have them but sellers can be found with Google.

I'm not familiar with the tyres you mention. I liked the 1.6 Supremes but they don't come cheap and I had one fail when I was in Malaysia so will try some 2" Panaracer ribmo's if I can find a seller. Or wait for a deal on the 2" Supremes.

Just checked Vittoria site and it appears the Randonneur Pro II doesn't come in 2" width. :(

I forgot you where probably going with Spryres. I got one set of 180mm Spykes from Bike24. Need to go to eBay etc for the other set.

Hmmm, I think I have an unused set of 26"x2.0" Supremes. Is it 26" you're using?
