Ok I'm posting this deal more to inform everyone, who mightn't know of their existence, of the ability to buy cables with a voltage display.

I'm not a fan of this company due to shipping taking a couple of months from China from the last product I bought from them, but I would have loved to have know about this product earlier and thought others might too.

Garmin have announced the Edge 520 Plus - a 520 with the navigation features of the 1030.

For riders that want more advanced navigation functions, the Edge 520 Plus now includes Garmin Cycle Maps, which provides turn-by-turn directions that work either on marked city streets or on the trail. In addition, GroupTrack helps you keep tabs on your other Garmin-using riding buddies, and you can even now send messages to them, too. For riders looking for advanced performance monitoring features, the Edge 520 Plus is compatible with ANT+ power meters like the Vector 3 to track FTP and pedaling mechanics, while built-in Incident Detection can send alerts to designated recipients if the unit has determined you’ve been in a crash.

Presumably the firmware will be fairly bug-free after a reasonable period of use in the 520 and 1030.

So perhaps this offers a more affordable navigation solution for tourists.

No idea what "hybride" (from the website) means but if you like Time ATACs then these are are just what you have been waiting for!!! Well, I have any way, bit of a fan and all my bikes have them. Cant say they are the best pedals to ride in normal flat shoes like Vans or even worse in bare feet.

Probably a first step to get cyclists to wear sensors for drivelers cars.
Seems a bit strange to be installing lights into a dark jacket as well. Maybe it accentuates the small led lights.
Still, its a positive move from a car company. Next is a radio operated cycling noise generated by your new ford that the cyclist may hear from speakers in the collar.

Now that would make for a pleasant drive.

As it happens, many Ford cars already come with sound-based signalling technology that the driver can use to indicate to cyclists it's time to get off the road, because he's coming through.

Ten years ago, after a deeply frustrating experience as an early adopter of the Garmin Edge 305, I swore off GPS computers and bought a Sigma Rox 9. It was an excellent bike computer and I used for a long time, until eventually the plastic housing began to degrade and cause the buttons stick, so I had to stop using it. Sigma did produce their own GPS cycle computer soon after, but it was a fairly basic device.

But when Ray Maker reviews the latest offering from Sigma and says he's impressed, it's time for me to take another look, and also for all the other makers to Look Out!

I don't think I have seen these mentioned before but interested if anyone is using one of these Wacaco Minipresso portable espresso machines? I could cope with one of the pod versions I reckon for a half decent coffee in the morning.

A quick search found the Nesspresso version locally for $54.00.

I liked it so much, that I upgraded to the NanoPresso version (which has a double espresso adapter kit) for my last Munda Biddi stage.
It's my piece of luxury when roughing it.

I've had both the Nespresso and Caffitally but didn't get on with either of them.

I'm guessing I'll be sticking with a french press for the duration.

Those coffee-pods are an environmental disaster. Stick with a french-press. I have a nice one that does good coffee - a GSI Commuter Java press. 400ml capacity and its double-wall works to keep the coffee warm for a while.

Discussed on bushwalking.com some time ago. I've tossed the idea around but it's a lot of hassle for a thimbleful of coffee so I've settled for a cup of Williamson Earl Grey instead.

Maybe not new, but perhaps interesting : A gps app that breaks down 57 million points on the globe (including remote australia, according to my brief play with it) to 3mx3m points identified by three random words. Basically an easier way to give your precise location rather than latitude and longitude coordinates. A blurb I read about it says it has a sos feature, for quick notification to a selected emergency contact.

Edit : doesnt seem to have the touted emergency function

Just received an email from Johnny Appleseed promoting the forthcoming Spot X Messenger which will now be available in Australian from mid-November. Pre-order price is $389, normal price is $469. They have a bit more on it here.

Personally I think the Garmin inReach Mini looks more interesting but is more expensive.

Just got hold of a CrankTank4, a 4 litre water bottle designed to sit a the bottom of the main triangle over the bottom bracket. Connects to drinking tube with bite valve.

Fits the VWR frame well, with just enough space for a 1/2 frame bag above it. Fits over the gates belt nicely.
