Would the White Industries CLD hub be suitable for touring?

Thanks for all the help guys, the final build spec is as follows. Hopefully all the parts arrive in a timely manner.

I can't get the All-City Space Horse Disc frameset in my size.... which was a bummer. The wait is 3 months minimum. I looked around for something else that tickled my fancy but anything I liked was either out of stock or not available for at least 3 months in my size. So... reluctantly we are going to be 'that' couple with matching bikes.... matching Vaya Ti's. sigh.

Still deciding if it is worth going the Praxis 48/32 crankset or just stick with a Shimano Ultegra 50/34 crankset. I'm not sure if it worth mixing the groupset up for the sake of 2 chain ring teeth. If it was 46/30 I'd definitely do it.

Frame: Salsa Vaya Ti 55
Headset: Chris King Black
Handlebars: Zipp Service Course SL Erg 40cm
Stem: Thomson Elite x4 80mm 10 degrees Black
Seatpost: Thomson Elite 27.2mm x 400mm Black
Tape: Fat tape black / Supacaz Yellow for drops
Pedals: Shimano XT trail
Bottom Bracket: ??? (still deciding)
Crankset: Ultegra 6800 46/36
Brifters / Brakes: RS685 brifters / RS785 hydro brakes
Front derailleur: Ultegra 6800 braze-on
Rear derailleur: Ultegra 6800 GS
Casette: Ultegra 6800 11-32
Braze on / clamp: Problem solver
Chain catcher: Wickwerks Sentinel
Chain: KMC X11SL Gold
Rotors: Shimano RT-86 6 bolt
Front Rim: Light-Bicycle RR36C02 (32h) - matte / Yellow
Rear Rim: Light-Bicycle RR36C02 (32h) - matte / Yellow
Front Hub: SP PD-8X 15mm Thru Axle 6 bold disc Black
Rear Hub: ??? (still deciding)
Spokes: (Will discuss with wheel builder)
Nipples: (Will discuss with wheel builder)
Tyres: Soma Cazadero 700x42c Black
Tubes: Continental cross 28 60mm valve
Dyno Light: SON Edelux II Gold - Cable length 140cm
Dyno Light mounts: SON front mount schmidt delux long for handlebar Black

Decided on the 6800 46/36 cyclocross crankset for the bike. Reckon it should do nicely,

Have you considered tubeless - they are a natural choice for this kind of bike/use.

I have Cazadero's mounted on Stan's Flow EX rims. It's my first experience with tubeless but has been very positive.

I have tubeless on my commuter. Schwalbe S One 30c. To be honest ill switch back to 4 seasons once they wear out due to them having much better grip, especially in the wet. I'm not opposed to.tubeless. and you are right, they make sense for this purpose. But the parts listed above have already been purchased so that is it for now.

I am not sure about Ron's but my PD-8X did not come with a QR skewer. It came with a 15mm(?) to QR adaptor which fits a bit sloppily, but that is all. Mine came in the box from Bike24.

Mine came like this also. The adapter is a bit of a sloppy fit. Lucky I don't need it, 15mm thru axle ftw.

Still waiting on the rims to arrive and then the build can begin.

The adaptor does not meet to be any tighter fit, it is only a guide.

It is the axle not the adaptor which is clamped by the skewer.

I've had two CX cranksets and swapped the 36 for a 34 each time for 46/34.

IMO it gives a very nice spread and gets you that slightly lower gear for gravel climbing and light touring when coupled with 11-32 or 11-34 cassette.

Cool. Will see how I go. Doubt I'll use 36/32 very often, time will tell.

You will use it - maybe not often but when you do you'll be glad it's there.

Cyclotaur, was the front shift quality impacted at all?

Not that I noticed. It's still only a 12 cog diff, compared to 14 only a regular CX crank, and16 on a compact 50/34 road crank. Changes smooth as butter, and is just like a 1-2 cog rear change at most so allows you to easily swap rings in the mid-range of the rear cassette.

There are now FSA cranks available for gravel/adventure bikes (eg, Spec Sequoia) with 48/32 which is a really interesting combo. I actually would like 48/34 on a road bike and 46/32 on my all-rounder.

Saw these pics last night, so had a somewhat restless sleep due to the disturbing bright and shiny chains.
This needs to be corrected.
Very nice end result but expected as, well, they be Salsas. The bar mounted lights look good, thinking of getting my light (B&M Lumotec IQ ) higher for winter but limited in bar space, any chance of a close up? Being lazy and looking them up myself so, do they also come as 25.4 or 26 or would need to shim?

I'm actually having some gopro to dyno light adapters custom made to have the light attached to the K edge dual mount. The bars we chose are erg and not round which makes mounting things difficult.

Like the way your bikes have turned out.

There are a couple of options for gopro mounts for lights. Cheap & great if it fits is this alloy mount it attaches with a single screw.

For custom, I would suggesting approaching Kevin from Vancouver (the US, not Canada) He has a CNC machine and churns out some very nice adapters, able to make custom adjustments as required. Postage from the US is a bit of a killer though.
