Stands for Surly LHT

Postby rifraf » Sat Oct 06, 2018 7:25 pm

I did do some searches looking for the the various stand threads but I've not had much success with the search engine for some time.

Thats an observation and not a complaint.

Anyway, to my point of posting the thread.

I notice Surly is now selling plates for kickstands for the Long Haul Trucker

Perhaps good news for LHT owners as for many years the standard response in various forums was a link to Surly suggesting stands were a no go or at least not recommended.

I use one of these. http://www.click-stand.com/
It supports above the CoG and seems strong. Of course, it's not "kick and go", but you don't need to track down retailers with Surly stock!

I too utilise a click-stand after a recommendation from I RonK who I believe first brought them to our attention.

There used to be a thread or two which I think was LHT specific which brought it to everyones attention, Surly's stance on kickstands which was perhaps a little negative at the time.

With my heavy tourer fully loaded, I have used a wooden "stick" with a Y that holds the cross bar. Only extra is a piece of inner tube on the "front brake" lever to keep the fully loaded bike from moving. I use a couple of velcro strips to keep the "stick" on the cross bar while travelling. Cheap too.

Yes, I’ve toured with a mate who’s used the Click Stand with a Surly LHT.

My Surly Long Haul Trucker has had a Hebie Bipod 605 NL from the get go. I do watch the sky regularly but just in case :)
